Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s the program all about?
A:

Precision Nutrition Coaching is a 12-month body transformation program that guides you through important—yet sustainable—changes in your eating and lifestyle with help from an expert coach.

To date, we’ve tested it with nearly 100,000 clients, who’ve transformed their bodies and health in amazing ways.

If you’ve tried something before and “failed” — or just can’t stick with it — know that you’re not alone. And it’s not your fault.

After all, self-directed training and nutrition programs fail 98 percent of the time. Not to mention, after many years in the fitness industry, we’ve seen dozens of diet and exercise fads come and go.

That’s why we don’t follow fads. Instead, we teach you doable daily actions that are designed to fit into a busy lifestyle.

We help you bring health and fitness into your life in a way that works for your life and your body.

Bottom line: Precision Nutrition Coaching enables you to make fitness and nutrition a part of your life—without it taking over.

Our program is designed to work on your absolute worst days, not just your best days.

As a result, our clients get results like this:

See what 365 days of Precision Nutrition Coaching can do.

Q: What does the program include?
A:

Precision Nutrition Coaching includes:

  • A structured year-long nutrition program to help keep you consistent.
  • An expert coach to give you feedback, make adjustments, and help keep you accountable.
  • Strategic daily nutrition practices that fit into your lifestyle.
  • Expert-designed (yet optional) exercise programs, customized to your skill level, goals, and time available.
  • $250,000 in prize money. We stack the deck in your favor and give you something positive to shoot for.
  • Guaranteed results. Stick with us for a year, and if you don’t get what you’re looking for, you get a full refund.
Q: How often do you accept new clients?
A:

We only accept new clients twice per year—and millions of people visit our website during those registration periods. That means we only have the capacity to coach less than 1 percent of the people who express interest in working with us.

Because of that, our programs have historically sold out in a matter of hours. That’s why we encourage people to put their name on the Precision Nutrition Coaching presale list.

By adding your name to that list, we’ll give you the opportunity to register 24 hours before everyone else, increasing your chances of getting a spot.

Plus, you’ll save up to 54% off the cost of the program. It’s our way of rewarding the people who are most willing to commit, because they’ve always proven to be our best clients.

Q: Who is Precision Nutrition Coaching for?
A:

Precision Nutrition Coaching is for women and men who want to get healthier, fitter, and stronger — and stay that way for the rest of their lives.

It’s for people who want to…

  • lose weight and body fat
  • build physical strength and confidence
  • get results that last
  • and get off the diet rollercoaster once and for all.

Plus, the program is designed for people with busy schedules.

We work closely with our clients to help them eat well and exercise, no matter what other craziness is going on in their lives.

We provide you with personal accountability, a structured nutritional program to follow, and a coach to help keep you consistent and on-track.

We don’t give you a crazy diet or exercise program to follow; instead, we help you build habits that will get you results that last forever.

Q: Who is Precision Nutrition Coaching NOT for?
A:

Precision Nutrition Coaching is not for figure or fitness models, professional bodybuilders, or high-level athletes training for a particular sport.

It’s also not for people who already have all the accountability they need.

If you rarely struggle with staying consistent with your exercise or eating habits, then we’re not a good choice for you.

Q: Will Precision Nutrition Coaching work for me?
A:

Want to lose weight? Eat better? Feel less stressed? Get more sleep?

If you follow our recommendations and stick with us for the full year then yes, you will get results.

If you participate in Precision Nutrition Coaching, do at least 80 percent of what we ask you to do, you’ll end up leaner, stronger, healthier, and happier with your body than you ever thought possible.

You don’t have to get it perfect. But you have to commit to making small, strategic changes in your life.

That’s something no one ever likes to admit about getting in better shape: It takes hard work, time, and determination.

Changing your body isn’t easy, but it is possible. For 15 years we’ve helped thousands of people do all that and more. No other company has that track record, and we’re confident we can help you, too.

Once you make the commitment to get in better shape, we’ll be with you every step of the way. When life pushes you around and difficulties come up, we’ll help you push back.

We’ll stack the deck in your favor and give you every advantage we know of. Over the course of 12 months, you’ll learn everything you need to look, feel, and perform at your best.

That’s our promise.

Q: Do you really guarantee results?
A:

Absolutely. We guarantee our work — 100% — because it’s the right thing to do.

We’ve helped nearly 100,000 clients people improve their nutrition, bodies, and health over the past 15 years; that makes us the world’s most experienced nutrition coaching team.

Stick with us for a year and follow our recommendations. If you don’t get what you’re looking for at the end of the year, we’ll give you a full refund.

Seriously. Every penny. You get to decide if the program was worth it.

Why do we do this? Because we stand behind our work. We know you’ll walk out healthier and happier than ever before.

Bonus: If you do really well, you could even win a bunch of cash at the end too.

Q: Who are you and what makes you qualified to coach?
A:

I’m John Berardi, Ph.D., co-founder of Precision Nutrition.

I’ve devoted my entire career to making health and fitness something that’s achievable and attainable for every type of person, from every walk of life. (Here’s a bit more about me, if you’re interested.)

At Precision Nutrition, we have a world-class coaching team made up of doctors, exercise specialists, naturopaths, nutritionists and counselors.

We’ve coached and mentored people in nearly 100 countries through our research programs, professional education courses, and personal coaching groups.

Fast Company magazine recently picked Precision Nutrition as one of the Most Innovative Companies in fitness.

Who comes to Precision Nutrition for help?

Thousands of people from all over the world. Companies like Nike and Apple. Professional sports teams like the San Antonio Spurs and dozens of Olympic athletes and their coaches.

Lots of people consider us the world’s leading experts in nutrition coaching. That’s a big responsibility, and we don’t take it lightly.

Precision Nutrition has been featured in dozens of media outlets…

…and has consulted with some of the world’s most innovative companies and teams.
Q: What will I learn in the Precision Nutrition Coaching program?
A:

If you’re wondering what we have in store for you, you can download the men’s and women’s curriculum outlines here:

Q: Do you give me a meal plan?
A:

No, we don’t give out meal plans.

Meal plans and diets aren’t really that useful or sustainable. People often feel like they’re either “on” them or “off” them. They feel like they’ve failed and are beyond hope if they’re not eating perfectly at every meal.

Our approach is completely different: We help you build a set of sustainable habits that will serve you for the rest of your life.

This means you get to choose — with the help of your coach — which foods are best for you, when to eat those foods, and how much to eat of them.

Q: Can I see a demo of how the program works?
A:

Sure can. This first demo details exactly what you can expect from Precision Nutrition Coaching for Men.

Learn exactly how Precision Nutrition Coaching for Men works.

And this one details what you can expect from Precision Nutrition Coaching for Women.

Learn exactly how Precision Nutrition Coaching for Women works.

Q: Why are you offering this type of coaching?
A:

Mentors and coaches have made all the difference in my life. And that’s why I developed the Precision Nutrition Coaching program.

At Precision Nutrition, most of us feel extremely fortunate to have access to mentors and coaches. People who are a little further along the path than we are. People who can help steer us in the direction we need to go.

That’s why we’ve made it our mission to pay it forward. We’re here to help you make meaningful change in your life.

Q: Why coaching? Can’t I just pick up a diet book? Or read some online articles for free?
A:

If you take an honest look at your life — and at the lives of the people you most respect and admire — you’ll notice something interesting.

As human beings, we’re rarely ever transformed by reading more books or articles. Or from watching a documentary. Or from taking a class.

Instead, most transformative change happens through a real relationship with another human being — usually a coach or a mentor.

Sure, you can try another diet book or read a few more articles, especially if you love thinking about exercise and nutrition. If you get great results with those tools, we applaud you.

But if you’re having trouble putting what you know into action, Precision Nutrition Coaching might be for you.

Q: Do you really hate books and blogs?
A:

I actually get this question a lot. And the answer is no: I don’t hate book or blogs. In fact, I love books. I’ve even written a couple.

But diet and fitness books rarely help us make dramatic, consistent changes in our lives.

Books typically present too much new information at once. They get you all fired up about a “new” way of doing things… which lasts for a few days. Then you’re back to where you were before.

Of course, while most of us think we need to learn everything at once, research shows the exact opposite: When we want to improve ourselves, the only way to do it is to change one thing at a time.

That’s why coaching (being led and guided by someone a little further along the path than you) and social support (being surrounded and encouraged by like-minded people) are so important.

The formula is simple: We deliver coaching, social support, and a process that encourages real change.

And that’s not something you can find in a book.

Q: I’m a beginner with a lot of weight to lose. Will this work for me?
A:

Yes. We’ve worked with lots of people who are new to exercise and healthy eating.

Remember, we were all beginners at some point. And at Precision Nutrition, we do our best to make sure all beginners work at a pace that’s comfortable for them.

To see for yourself how diverse our clients are, click here to see the men and here for the women that we’ve worked with.

You’ll notice that our clients come in all shapes and sizes, are all ages, and come from all different backgrounds.

Q: I’m NOT a beginner. Will Precision Nutrition work for me?
A:

Lots of our clients have 5+ years of experience with consistent training and healthy eating. And they still get great results with us. That’s because the interactions they have with their Precision Nutrition coach are tailored to their needs and goals — it’s not a “one size fits all” program.

Oftentimes, people with a lot of experience enjoy handing the reins over to us for a while. We take care of the nutrition and exercise programming so they can focus on improving other parts of their lives.

We’ve even helped hundreds of personal trainers get back in shape. Like Toni. Or Ron.

Q: What if I don’t have much weight to lose but just want to eat better?
A:

It’s great that you don’t have a lot of weight to lose. It means you’re starting out with a big advantage.

Of course, lifelong fitness and health is more than losing weight. With Precision Nutrition Coaching you’ll learn how to maintain a healthy (and lean) body for life.

You’ll discover how it feels to be more physically capable, more confident, and stronger — inside, and out.

Plus you’ll develop a new, healthier relationship to food and eating. And that’s something fewer than 5 percent of people know how to do.

Q: I’m interested in building muscle. Is this for me?
A:

Yes. We have custom exercise programming and nutrition habits specifically for people who want to gain muscle. Plus your coach will work with you to help you achieve specific body composition goals.

Q: I’m thinking of joining with a friend or partner. Can we do the program together?
A:

Of course. We encourage friends, partners, and family members to join together. That immediate social support makes a real difference for many of our clients.

Click here to meet a few couples who had great success with Precision Nutrition Coaching.

We’ve also had fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, sisters and brothers, coworkers, and best friends join together.

Q: Is this just for young people?
A:

Absolutely not. We coach men and women of all ages. We’ve had many winners and finalists who are in their 50s, 60s, and 70s.

To see for yourself how diverse our clients are, click here to see the men and here for the women that we’ve worked with.

Q: I work in the fitness industry. Should I do this or the Precision Nutrition Certification instead?
A:

The answer depends on a few things.

Want to become a better fitness professional? Then consider doing the Precision Nutrition Certification first. Then, once you’ve graduated from that program, you can consider joining us here.

By first learning the theory (i.e. Certification), and then seeing that theory in action (i.e. Coaching), you’ll get a much richer experience and really see how we tie the two together.

Want to get in better shape yourself? Then consider doing coaching first. You can get started on the Precision Nutrition Certification after you go through the coaching program yourself. This way you’ll get the main benefit you’re after (fitness) while also learning about our applied system. You can go back and learn the theory later.

Check out Toni and Ron’s stories for more information about how Precision Nutrition Coaching can help fitness professionals.

Q: What’s with the $250,000 in prize money?
A:

From what I can tell, most people just get lectured all the time about how they look or about how they’ll be stricken by all kinds of terrible diseases and die if they don’t start to eat better.

That kind of hysterical negativity doesn’t motivate most people, regardless of the goal; it just comes off as condescending, annoying and overwhelming.

In our experience, big, inspiring goals are much easier to achieve when something big is at stake.

So that’s why we put up real cash prizes for our clients and give away $250,000—a quarter of a million dollars—every year.

Every single client who participates in Precision Nutrition Coaching—regardless of where they live or what their goals are—is eligible for one of our big prizes.

Precision Nutrition Women's Coaching - Jill

Jill lost 55 pounds in PN Coaching; we surprised her with $25,000.
Precision Nutrition Men's Coaching - Andrew

Andrew lost 51 pounds in PN Coaching; we surprised him with $25,000.

Q: What if I don’t win any money?
A:

Precision Nutrition Coaching is designed to make the process of getting in better shape easier and more effective than ever before. So there are only three things you need to know right off the bat:

1. If it doesn’t work, it’s free.

Make a commitment and stick with us for a year. If you don’t get the results you’re looking for after those 12 months, we’ll give your money back. All of it. Every penny. You get to decide if it was worth it. Why do we do this? Because we stand behind our work. And we’re very confident you’ll end up looking and feeling better than ever before.

2. If you work hard and do a good job, you get in the best shape of your life.

Follow our advice, and you will get the body you’re after, plain and simple. That’s what people are looking for: something that truly works. And that’s what we deliver. You walk out in the best shape of your life.

3. And if you do a great job, you get in the best shape of your life AND you can win serious money.

Bonus: If you really kick butt in this, you might even win a bunch of cash at the end too. Which, for example, you could arrange in a big pile in your backyard and swim in it with your newly-fit body. Or you could take a stack of bills from your winnings, and flip through them ever so slowly, letting the sound of Benjamin Franklin lull you to sleep at night.

In the end, even if you don’t end up with prize money, you will end up healthier and fitter than ever before.

And that’s worth the weight you’ll lose in gold.

Q: I read that you require progress photos. Do I have to submit those?
A:

Well, technically, we don’t require progress photos. They’re completely optional.

The reason we request progress photos is to visually document the changes you’re making while coaching with us.

It’s also important for your coach to see what’s happening so they can help give you better advice when required.

At the end of your coaching experience, if you’re really proud of your transformation and want to be featured as a finalist, we’ll ask for your permission to do so.

But, before that, the pictures will be kept totally private at all times.

Remember, we’re here to help people change their bodies and their lives. Not to embarrass anyone or make them feel ashamed. So you can opt out of the photo process if you want to.

Nonetheless, we really do encourage you to stretch yourself, get out of your comfort zone, and give this method a try.

Just like a few of our most recent clients:

Q: How much does it cost?
A:

The exclusive presale price: Choose from a one-time payment of $997 USD, or $97 USD per month for 12 months.

This is the lowest price we’ve ever offered!

Note: This discount is only for people on the presale list; the general public pays either $1799 USD up front, or $179 USD per month for 12 months.

We offer this discount to people who sign up for the presale list for one reason: the people who are most eager and willing to take action are usually our best clients. That’s why we reward them with a discount and a chance to register a full 24 hours before everyone else.

Not on the presale list yet? Add your name here.

Q: Will I have to spend a lot of money on food and supplements?
A:

When it comes to food, most clients actually end up saving money on their grocery bills.

This is because they make more informed, careful decisions, eat out less, and spend fewer dollars on processed novelty foods, replacing them with whole, delicious natural foods.

As for supplements, we may recommend a few health-oriented products, based on your unique needs and goals. However, these are completely optional.

Q: Will I need to join a gym?
A:

Nope, you don’t have to join a gym to be successful with Precision Nutrition Coaching.

All the exercise programs can be performed at a gym or at home.

  • USA
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom

Q: I like to… (Crossfit, run, bike, swim, ski, do group exercise classes, walk my dog, etc). Can I still do the stuff I love while getting coaching?
A:

Of course. Keep doing what you love.

That’s the whole point of Precision Nutrition Coaching—to learn how to eat and exercise in a way that works for you.

Health and fitness should be fun, freeing and sustainable. It’s about helping you live a fuller life. So yes, if anything, the program will help you do more of the things you love.

Once you get started, your coach will work with you to structure things in a way that works for your lifestyle.

Q: I already have a personal trainer. Can I keep that up while getting coaching with Precision Nutrition?
A:

Yes, if you want to continue with both, that’ll work.

In fact, I think with Precision Nutrition Coaching AND your in-person coach, you’ll be unstoppable.

Once you sign up, just let your coach know that you’re working with a local trainer and we’ll make sure to integrate the two.

Q: I have a few injuries. Can I still join?
A:

Yes.

We all go through injuries, so I understand where you’re coming from. In fact, here’s my own personal story with injury.

With Precision Nutrition Coaching, we can tailor certain exercises to help fit your needs.

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll simply work with your coach to find some easy and effective alternatives.

Q: I follow a special diet (plant-based, vegan, Paleo, intermittent fasting). Will you still work with me?
A:

Yep, we’d love to work with you. The nutrition habits your coach will guide you through are easily customizable.

All you have to do is let your coach know what your dietary preferences/restrictions are and they’ll help you out.

Q: When does the Precision Nutrition Coaching program begin?
A:

We open registration on Wednesday, July 18th. And there won’t be another one until January 2019.

To get an early bird chance at registration, we strongly recommend that you sign up for the presale list.

Q: How long does the program run for?
A:

Precision Nutrition Coaching lasts for 12 months. Based on our continued research, we’ve found a full year to be the most effective time period for building the habits necessary for lifelong health and fitness.

Our coaching team is committed to helping you make a life-changing transformation. That’s why we have everyone commit to the program for 12 months.

Q: Do you really sell out every time you open?
A:

Yes.

Since we only open our coaching program twice per year—and since we can only accept less than 1 percent of people who express interest in working with us—we tend to sell out in a matter of hours.

A couple years ago we weren’t totally prepared for how quickly it would happen. Back then, Precision Nutrition Coaching was called “Lean Eating”. And we literally had our website crash due to the overwhelming amount of people trying to get in at once.

Precision Nutrition

This is a note from a couple years ago. We sold out in 30 minutes and had our website crash from the traffic.

Nowadays we continue to have a lot of people visit our website… and we continue to accept a limited amount of clients.

The only difference is that we now prepare our computer servers to deal with the sudden rush of people trying to get a spot. (We learned that the hard way.)

Q: How do I increase my chances of getting a spot?
A:

To get an early bird chance at registration, we strongly recommend that you sign up for the presale list.

We’ll send you a special link 24 hours before the general public, increasing your chances of getting a spot.

Q: What are other people saying about Precision Nutrition Coaching?
A:

The feedback on the coaching has been overwhelmingly positive.

Here are a couple stories to check out.

First, here’s Lisa’s story, which is definitely worth watching:

Watch as we surprise grand prize winner, Lisa.

Spencer’s is pretty cool too:

Watch as we surprise grand prize winner, Spencer.

Q: What’s the special discount I’ve heard about?
A:

We like to reward people who are eager to get started. That’s why we offer a special discount for people who sign up for the presale list.

The regular price for the Precision Nutrition Coaching Program is $1799 USD up front (or $179 USD per month for 12 months).

However, if you sign up for the presale list, you can join for $997 USD up front. Or $97 USD per month for 12 months.

This is the lowest price we’ve ever offered!

Q: How can I learn more about the Precision Nutrition Coaching Program?
A:

To learn more, add your name to the presale list.

Once you’re on the list, we’ll follow-up with more information, including how to connect with our team if you have further questions.

Interested in Precision Nutrition Coaching? Join the presale list; you’ll save up to 54% and secure a spot 24 hours early.

We’ll be opening up spots in our next Precision Nutrition Coaching onWednesday, July 18th, 2018.

If you’re interested in coaching and want to find out more, I’d encourage you to join our presale list below. Being on the list gives you two special advantages.

  • You’ll pay less than everyone else. At Precision Nutrition we like to reward the most interested and motivated people because they always make the best clients. Join the presale list and you’ll save up to 54% off the general public price, which is the lowest price we’ve ever offered.
  • You’re more likely to get a spot. To give clients the personal care and attention they deserve, we only open up the program twice a year. Last time we opened registration, we sold out within minutes. By joining the presale list you’ll get the opportunity to register 24 hours before everyone else, increasing your chances of getting in.

If you’re ready to change your body, and your life, with help from the world’s best coaches, this is your chance.

As we’re about to open the program — and last time we sold out in hours — we’re getting lots of questions. Here we’ll answer the most common ones so you can decide if it’s a good solution for you.

What is ProCoach?

Q: Can you tell me a little more about ProCoach?
A:

ProCoach is part nutrition software, part nutrition curriculum, and part client management tool. Yet it’s very different from other software you’ve seen.

In essence, ProCoach delivers — to your clients, on your behalf — an online, up-to-12-month nutrition and lifestyle coaching program, complete with daily lessons, habits, check-ins, and more.

This practice-based approach will help your clients gradually, and permanently, transform the way they eat, move, and live.

Plus, you get to work front-and-center as their coach. You’ll offer guidance and support them — answering questions, encouraging, tracking their progress — through a special ProCoach dashboard.

Here’s how it works.

Once you register, you’ll be taken to your ProCoach admin area.

This area contains everything you need to get started, including:

  • simple instructions on how to add your first client,
  • a curriculum guide outlining how the program unfolds for clients,
  • a business implementation guide for integrating the offering,
  • a marketing and sales guide for spreading the word, and
  • a full Learning Center that walks you through everything else.

Overview of the ProCoach Learning Center.

From there, you can easily add your first client. All you need is their name and email address.

Adding clients is easy, just include their name, email address, and program.

After you add a client to the ProCoach program, they’ll activate their account and fill out a comprehensive intake / assessment form online.

Once that’s complete, the client will begin receiving daily emails containing brief descriptions of what they should be working on and thinking about that day.

Example of the daily emails clients will receive.

These emails link to a special ProCoach homepage where clients find:

1) Daily habits.

Every 2 weeks clients are presented with a new habit, something they’re asked to practice every day, to develop a particular nutrition or lifestyle skill. These habits are explained in detail on day one. And every day after, ProCoach reminds them about their habit.

Example habit / practice for clients to follow.

2) Daily habit checks.

Every day they’ll also be asked to record whether or not they practiced their habit. Consistency is tracked in a special “Progress” area of the ProCoach client interface. This helps clients see how consistent they’re being. You’ll also get access to these data in your admin area.

More detail about each habit / practice.

3) Daily lessons and assignments.

To support the daily habits, ProCoach offers brief lessons in the form of articles, videos, audio files, and/or downloads. Client engagement with lessons and assignments is tracked in the client’s progress area and recorded in your admin area.

Example lesson that accompanies the current habit / practice.

4) Regular progress checks.

Every week or two, clients are asked to provide body weight, girths, photos, and other markers of progress, including subjective ones. These are tracked in the client’s progress area, recorded in your admin area.

One of the progress checks that comes every few weeks.

That’s an overview of the comprehensive client experience.

As their coach, you’ll not only get the confidence of knowing your clients are well taken care of, you’ll also get visibility into their progress through a dashboard that allows you to track your entire client list at a glance.

The client list gives you overview stats on each client, including where they’re at in the program, how consistent they’ve been, and how their body has changed.

Client list within the ProCoach dashboard.

You can also drill down to each person’s client details page by clicking on their name.

Client details page within the ProCoach dashboard.

There you’ll see their photos, important details about them from their intake questionnaire, and how they’re doing in the program. You’ll get access to everything they’ve done (or not done) in the program to date.

ProCoach Workouts (Optional)

After working with thousands of ProCoaches to deliver comprehensive nutrition and lifestyle coaching, many began asking us to unlock our vault of expert-designed exercise programs so they can deliver a more holistic, single-platform experience.

As Precision Nutrition’s own coaching programs have offered integrated exercise, nutrition, lifestyle advice for years, we decided to make available our 28 client-proven exercise tracks for you to use with selected clients.

You now have 3 options when using ProCoach. For each client, you can:

  • Use ProCoach for nutrition coaching only,
  • Use ProCoach for both nutrition and exercise coaching,
  • Use ProCoach for exercise coaching only.

The choice is yours.

ProCoach Workouts is now an option you can use with selected clients.

Q: Who are you? What makes you qualified to offer this?
A:

I’m Dr. John Berardi, co-founder of Precision Nutrition.

I’ve devoted my entire career to making health and fitness something that’s achievable and attainable for every type of person, from every walk of life. (Here’s a bit more about me, if you’re interested.)

At Precision Nutrition, we have a world-class coaching team made up of doctors, exercise specialists, naturopaths, dietitians, nutritionists, and counselors.

FCMIC-Logo_20151

Precision Nutrition was named one of the 10 most innovative companies in fitness by Fast Company magazine.

We’ve coached and mentored people in nearly 100 countries through our research programs, professional education courses, and personal coaching groups.

When people want the best, they work with us.

Thousands of people from all over the world. Companies like Nike and Apple. Professional sports teams like the San Antonio Spurs and dozens of Olympic athletes and their coaches.

We’ve written for, or been featured in, these leading publications.

And we’ve consulted with these organizations.

Lots of people consider us the world’s leading experts in nutrition coaching. That’s a big responsibility, and we don’t take it lightly.

Q: How does ProCoach compare to other nutrition software out there?
A:

There’s nothing else like this.

Sure, there are other “nutrition software packages”. But they’re generally geared toward generating “customized meal plans”.

Here’s how those programs work: You input a client’s statistics and food preferences, the program spits out a meal plan, and you ask the client to follow that.

Sounds good in principle.

Sadly, only about 1 in 10 clients actually follow a customized meal plan for more than a few weeks. You see, meal plans just aren’t practical. (We’ll talk about this more below.)

But let’s say you do have a few clients who can follow the meal plan. That’s great. How long can they (or will they want to) follow a specific menu? A year? 10 years? 25 years?

While “meal plan software” sounds good in principle, it’s not very useful in practice. And the evidence is written all over the market.

Hundreds of meal plan websites and apps have come and gone in the last 20 years. None of them stick around very long. It’s a fitting end considering that’s exactly what happens to the clients trying to follow their meal plans.

Needless to say, we use a totally different approach.

Q: So what’s wrong with meal plans?
A:

In our early days, we learned something the hard way: Meal plans and diets aren’t useful or sustainable for the vast majority of clients.

Clients often feel like they’re either “on” them or “off” them. The black-and-white nature of a meal plan suggests that people have to eat perfectly at each meal (to match what’s listed in the plan) — or they’ve failed. It’s psychologically unpalatable and unsustainable.

Even more, meal plans are too inflexible. They don’t work with the reality of people’s busy lives. Work meetings, children’s programs, meals out, dogs that need walking, cars that break down, family members that get ill, etc. Meal plans take none of these into account.

Finally, meal plans assume people already have the skills to follow them. But that’s simply not true. Most people who aren’t eating healthy today don’t have the basics down.

Without skills like:

  • eating slowly and mindfully,
  • tuning into hunger and appetite cues,
  • planning grocery shopping,
  • choosing the right items from the store,
  • storing and preparing food correctly,
  • avoiding problem foods, and
  • choosing better options at restaurants…

…following a meal plan becomes hopeless.

You might as well ask someone who’s only strong enough to bench press 135 pounds to do 405 pounds. No matter how badly they want to, they don’t have the skills or capacity.

But these aren’t just intellectual objections. In our experience, only 1 in 10 people can actually follow a meal plan for more than a few weeks.

In the end, meal plans have such limited utility that we left them behind, for most of our clients, along time ago.

Q: If you don’t offer meal plans, what do you offer? What will my clients learn in ProCoach?
A:

ProCoach uses habit-based (or practice-based) coaching, a method rooted in change psychology and built on the latest science of what actually helps people develop new skills and make change in their lives.

So rather than telling people what to eat for breakfast and when to eat it, we help them build the skills (and daily habits) required to eat well, every day, no matter what life throws at them.

We also help them discover what’s right for them, in the context of their own unique lives. That’s why our program’s results are so sustainable.

So, instead of giving people a menu that looks like this:

  • Meal 1 (6:30am): 3 eggs, ½ cup oatmeal, 1 banana
  • Meal 2 (9:30am): protein shake
  • Meal 3 (12:30pm): turkey breast sandwich and small salad

…we give them a series of 2-week habits — which are both solid and flexible — to help them build the skills necessary to make better nutrition and lifestyle choices today (and for life).

To support these habits, we also offer relevant lessons and assignments with Socratic-type thought exercises that help them (and you) explore their unique schedule, priorities, belief systems, food preferences, food tolerances, and more.

This helps them build, what we call, an “Owner’s Manual”.

If you’d like to see what this looks like in practice, check out our curriculum outlines:

With all that said, we do offer our Quick-Start Guides so clients have detailed instruction right out of the gate. This is a slick, custom packet of advice on food choices, portion control, workout nutrition, grocery shopping, and meal prep.

Q: Can you explain habit-based coaching a little more?
A:

Sure.

We believe that people can only reliably get to their goals when they do two things:

  1. Break down what they want to do into specific aptitudes (skills).
  2. Build those aptitudes through strategic daily habits (practices).

The formula pretty much looks like this:

Practice daily to build skills.

Build skills to achieve goals.

In the end, growth and development comes through daily practices and supporting experiences.

Here’s an example of how this works:

Goal: Eat better consistently

Let’s say you want to lose weight. You know that to lose weight you’ll need to eat better consistently. That’s your real goal: Eat better consistently.

But you don’t have all the skills to do it just yet. So you have to break it down into…

Skill: Hunger and appetite awareness

Which skills are required to eat better consistently? We’ve identified hunger / appetite awareness as the most important initial skill for making progress.

But that’s not quite a concrete thing you can do. So you have to break it down into…

Practices: Eat slowly and stop eating when satisfied

We use two daily practices to build the skill of hunger and appetite awareness.

Practice 1: Eat slowly.

Practice 2: Eat until satisfied, not stuffed.

This takes a month — two weeks for clients to learn, practice, and repeat each habit. At the end of a month, clients have two very important habits that they can now use for the rest of their lives. They’ve learned it by doing it.

Not surprisingly, clients usually lose weight during this time. Because, of course, they’re learning to eat a bit less and adjust their intake according to body signals.

Even better, they’ve built two new habits that they can use for the rest of their lives, no matter what else happens.

The ProCoach software delivers weekly habits (like the two above), supported by daily lessons and assignments, to help your clients not only eat better now — but also build the skills necessary to eat better for life.

How lessons and habits are presented on a client’s “today page”.

Why introduce habits one by one?

Because true progress comes not from “overhauling,” but from building transferable skills. Systematically.

When clients strategically replace old habits with new ones developed through daily, intentional actions, they learn things like:

  • What’s truly important to them
  • Prioritizing and time management
  • Mindfulness, self-compassion, and emotional regulation
  • Persistence and consistency
  • Flexibility and resilience

These skills are useful in all areas of life. But they’re absolutely crucial for sustainable body transformation.

Q: What kinds of results are possible with habit-based coaching?
A:

Since we built the beta version of ProCoach, 15 years ago, nearly 100,000 clients have gone through the program.

Today we coach, on average, 5,000 clients a year with about 20 full-time Precision Nutrition coaches (and an awesome group of part-time interns and mentors).

And here are the types of results we produce:

Watch the results of 365 days of ProCoach coaching; photos are taken monthly over the course of a year.

Here’s another compilation:

See first hand how the ProCoach program and curriculum have impacted the lives of our clients.

As you can see, our clients are a diverse bunch. They come in all ages, shapes, and sizes. In fact, they’re probably a lot like your clients.

Which means the results you saw this video above are the exact same results your clients can expect when you start using ProCoach.

Q: What dietary philosophy is ProCoach built on?
A:

None, really.

You see, we’re nutritional agnostics. (For more on what this means, check out this article).

While meal-plan approaches require you to choose between vegan, Paleo, Mediterranean, or other “labeled” diets, habit-based approaches don’t force this choice.

This means our progressive systems of habits, lessons, and assignments can work equally well for vegetarians (who eat no meat) or “meatatarians” (who eat mostly meat).

Of course, we do believe that a healthy diet generally consists of:

  • whole, minimally processed foods,
  • lots of plants,
  • enough protein to meet your needs,
  • a healthy mix of different fats,
  • plenty of water, and
  • carbohydrates based on activity levels.

Through lessons, assignments, and daily habits:

  • We help clients find the right mix of all these foods for their goals, lifestyle, and preferences.
  • We show them how to make meals suitable for them.
  • And we help them stay consistent.

However, we go much deeper than just the food.

We also dig into:

  • Food behaviors (food timing, meal frequency, meal speed, and food amount).
  • Food attitudes (food views, restriction vs. abundance, disordered thinking).
  • Stress management (in general, how it relates to food).
  • Rest, recovery, and sleep (in general, how they relate to food).
  • Outlook (confidence, resilience, mastery, and growth mindset).
Q: Since ProCoach is nutritionally agnostic, can I use ProCoach to coach clients of all dietary preferences — vegans and paleos alike?
A:

Absolutely.

Through lessons, assignments, and daily habits we help clients find the right mix of plants, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and calories for their goals, lifestyle, and preferences.

Then, once they’ve built their unique “Owner’s Manual”, we help them stay consistent with what’s best for them.

One of the “Build Your Owner’s Manual” exercises from the program.

There’s nothing in the program that forces a meaty (or non-meaty) agenda.

So, yes, we can help vegans “vegan better” and paleos “paleo better”. (And everyone else do stuff better too).

Q: ProCoach looks awesome. How easy is it to use?
A:

It’s incredibly easy to use.

If you have a regular internet connection, can visit normal websites, can use a keyboard and mouse, and can send/receive email, using ProCoach will be a breeze.

You don’t have to be a computer expert or even particularly tech-savvy to make it work. We make sure everything is spelled out clearly on your ProCoach admin page.

Overview of the ProCoach Learning Center.

Remember, we built this software for our full-time coaches to use when coaching our own clients. And we didn’t want to limit our hires to only people who were computer geniuses.

Q: Are there any tutorials on how to use ProCoach?
A:

Yes, as mentioned above, our Learning Center teaches you everything you need to know. It has sections for:

  • Managing clients
  • Understanding the billing process
  • Using the coach dashboard
  • Acquainting yourself with the entire curriculum
  • Understanding our coaching model
  • FAQs
  • Business models we’ve seen work
  • Marketing and sales

And a whole lot more.

Even if you don’t consider yourself tech-savvy, we’ve got your back. The software is very easy to use. And we’ll make sure you’re confident in using it and in delivering a world-class experience to your clients.

Q: You mentioned built-in client accountability. What does that look like?
A:

For real change to happen, clients have to practice healthy habits every day.

As mentioned above, ProCoach makes it easy for clients with the following features:

1) Daily emails.

Clients get daily emails containing brief descriptions of what they should be working on and thinking about that day. These emails link to a special ProCoach homepage where lessons, habits, and assignments are outlined.

Example of the daily emails clients will receive.

2) Daily habits.

Every 2 weeks clients are presented with a new habit — something they’re asked to practice every day — to develop a particular nutrition or lifestyle skill. These habits are explained in detail on day one. And every day after, ProCoach reminds them about their habit.

Example habit / practice for clients to follow.

3) Daily habit checks.

Every day they’ll also be asked to record whether or not they practiced their habit. Consistency is tracked in a special “Progress” area of the ProCoach client interface. This helps clients see how consistent they’re being. You’ll also get access to these data in your admin area.

More detail about each habit / practice.

4) Daily lessons and assignments.

To support the daily habits, ProCoach offers brief lessons in the form of articles, videos, audio files, and/or downloads. Client engagement with lessons and assignments is tracked in the client’s progress area and recorded in your admin area.

Example lesson that accompanies the current habit / practice.

5) Regular progress checks.

Every week or two, clients are asked to provide their body weight, girths, photos, and other markers of progress, including subjective ones. These are tracked in the client’s progress area and recorded in your admin area.

One of the progress checks that comes every few weeks.

That’s an overview of the comprehensive client experience.

Notice how it’s all automated. That means the entire coaching program can run itself without your intervention.

Once you add a client, unless you want to check up on your client’s stats, give feedback on assignments, or help them collect progress data, you can be completely hands-off.

Q: How is daily adherence tracking done?
A:

As mentioned above, every day clients get a habit reminder as well as a lesson or assignment (in the form of a short article, video, audio file, or download).

In addition, clients are asked whether or not they did their specific habit for the day.

The answer (yes or no) is recorded in the client’s “Progress” section. Whether or not they completed their lesson or assignment for the day is also recorded here.

Lesson and habit adherence are tracked on the client’s “my progress” page.

Responses to their assignments and lessons are also recorded in the “Archive” section.

Lesson and habit archive.

Plus, as their coach, you’ll also get access to these data through the ProCoach admin area.

Q: How can I keep track of my clients, where they’re at, and how they’re doing?
A:

We’ve built an awesome dashboard to track client progress.

This dashboard is located in your ProCoach admin area and it allows you to track your entire client list at a glance.

Client list within the ProCoach dashboard.

The client list gives you overview stats on each client including where they’re at in the program, how consistent they’ve been, and how their body has changed.

You can also drill down to each client’s details page by clicking on their name.

Client details page within the ProCoach dashboard.

There you’ll see their photos, important details about them (from their intake questionnaire), and how they’re doing in the program. You’ll get access to pretty much everything they’ve done (or failed to do) in the program to date.

Q: What does the intake process look like?
A:

Client intake is really easy.

As mentioned earlier, you’ll simply add a client to the program by including their name and email address.

Adding clients is easy, just include their name, email address, and program.

Once added, clients will receive an email telling them a bit more about the program and asking them to activate their account.

What clients are sent when invited to the program.

This email will prompt them to create their own unique username and password.

What clients are sent when invited to the program.

Once they’ve set up their username and password they’ll be taken to a special client home page.

What clients will see once accepting their invitation.

Once your client sets up their account (it’s easy and only takes a few minutes), they’ll fill out a comprehensive intake / assessment form so that you have all the information you need to coach them over barriers and into the best shape of their lives.

Client intake questionnaire.

Once they’ve completed the intake form, they’ll begin receiving their daily lessons, assignments, and habits on the following Monday.

Client onboarding lessons after completing their intake questionnaire.

In the end, the intake process is very simple for both you and the client.

Q: What kinds of assessments are collected, and when?
A:

During the coaching program, various types of assessments are collected including:

1) Intake.

Once you sign a client up, they’ll fill out a comprehensive intake questionnaire. The questionnaire gathers a wide range of nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle information for that client.

Client intake questionnaire.

2) Progress updates.

Every few weeks, clients are asked to provide body weight, girths, photos, and other progress indicators. Also included are questions about whether they felt like their behaviors for the last week or so matched up with their goals.

Example of a behavior-based question.

3) Surveys.

Every few months clients are asked to fill out a quick survey. One is a psychological assessment evaluating their mindset and resilience. Another asks important questions regarding how they feel about their progress so far. Another asks them to rate the program.

Example client surveys.

All of this information will be easily accessible within your ProCoach admin area.

Q: Does ProCoach offer exercise advice, or just nutrition?
A:

When we first launched ProCoach, the curriculum focused on:

  • nutrition
  • sleep
  • stress-management
  • mindset
  • overall healthy living

However, after working with thousands of ProCoaches to deliver comprehensive nutrition and lifestyle coaching, many began asking us to unlock our vault of expert-designed exercise programs so they can deliver a more holistic, single-platform experience.

As Precision Nutrition’s own coaching programs have offered integrated exercise, nutrition, lifestyle advice for years, we decided to make our 28 client-proven exercise tracks available for you to use with clients.

This means you can coach nutrition and lifestyle alone or, for a small additional charge of $69 USD per month, you can add ProCoach Workouts to your account and turn the workout programming on for selected clients.

Q: Can I get a look at the entire curriculum?
A:

Absolutely.

Click one of the links below to check it out:

Q: Is the ProCoach curriculum customizable?
A:

It depends on what you mean by “customizable”.

If you mean “Can I input all my own habits, lessons, assignments, progress checks, workouts, surveys, etc?” then no, it’s not that.

Let me explain why not.

You can think of the ProCoach curriculum as an evidence-based framework that’s standardized, allowing for significant customization on the client side (and coach side) of the program.

It’s what we call “Building Your Owner’s Manual”.

One of the “Build Your Owner’s Manual” exercises from the program.

Through the habits, lessons, and assignments, we ask clients to track their progress, gather data, and reflect on thought exercises, all of which gets compiled in their “Owner’s Manual” — a collection of information and analysis about their lives, bodies, needs, wants, and real-life-tested experiences.

This process helps them:

  • Take responsibility for themselves — their thoughts, their beliefs, their stories, their environments, and most importantly, their behaviors. (No more coach-blaming or “This diet / workout plan didn’t work for me!”)
  • Feel empowered by and invested in the idea that they now have a set of “handling instructions for their bodies”. (No more “one-size-fits-all” programs.)
  • Test hypotheses, gather data, and draw conclusions, just like scientists. (No more blindly “just following the rules”.)

The Owner’s Manual empowers them to make informed decisions about their own needs, wants, and priorities (instead of you telling them what to think or feel or do).

It’s client-centered coaching at its best.

So don’t think of the curriculum as a set of interchangeable habits and lessons. It’s not that. It’s a skill-building self-discovery tool that we built using state-of-the-art psychological principles.

Of course, no matter how great the curriculum, it can never eliminate the need for your:

  • Guidance and support.
  • Strategies to get through blocks and setbacks.
  • Problem-solving and goal setting.

Indeed, that’s what coaching is actually for. That’s what you’re for.

It’s for these reasons (and more) that we don’t even include “write my own lessons and habits” customization in our own coaching program with our own full-time coaches.

And it’s why we’re not including it in ProCoach.

By the way, the coaches I mentioned above are some of the most talented and experienced in the entire industry, having successfully coached thousands of clients each.

So let’s not let theoretical objections get in the way of the reality here.

The ProCoach software and curriculum have been proven to work, both in practice, and in peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Oh, and one more thing.

Even if we thought it was a good idea to allow across-the-board curriculum customization, it would be A LOT of work — too much work— for you to customize the actual habits, lessons, and assignments.

Think about it… there are 24 x 2-week habits that roll out over the course of the program. And along with each habit comes a 2-week block of lessons (about 10-12 lessons in total), at an average of 500 words each.

So, to “customize” you’d need to not only restructure the delivery of the program, you’d also need to write a host of new lessons/assignments.

How much new content would you have to create? Well, say you wanted to change even just 2 habit blocks. Well, that’s 20-24 lessons and 10,000-12,000 words of new content you’d have to write to support your addition.

Indeed, by trying to customize the actual content, you’d spend all your time as a writer/content creator instead of as a coach. Is that really your highest leverage opportunity? Do you even have the time for that?

In the end, our research suggests that most ProCoach users plan on delivering the curriculum just as we deliver them in our coaching programs, because that’s the highest-value opportunity.

Again, we’ve used ProCoach to help nearly 100,000 clients, with amazing results. That’s a whole lot of (very diverse) clients. And the key has been to deliver customization on the client and coaching side, not on the curriculum side.

Q: But if I’m delivering PN’s curriculum, why do my clients need me?
A:

The curriculum is only one part of the ProCoach experience. There’s also the software, which helps you effectively automate and scale. Put the two together and you’ve got the most sophisticated coaching tool on the market today.

But let’s not forget something here: Clients aren’t looking for tools. They’re looking for a real relationship with a real person. They want a coach. And that’s where you’re needed. (In some cases, desperately).

So, the secret to ProCoach is really technology + curriculum + YOU.

Remember: Software can never replace a client’s need to connect with a person. (It can, however, help that person become more efficient and effective).

In the end, ProCoach is here to:

  • Help you deliver an amazing coaching experience that’ll both change your clients’ lives and improve your business.
  • Help your clients experience “whole person” coaching to become the best possible version of themselves.

And remember: your coaching skill and expertise is the difference-maker here. We offer the world-class tools. You bring the coaching, support, and human connection required to get world-leading results.

Q: Can I interact with clients through the ProCoach software?
A:

Yes, we want you to have a direct line to your clients. So we’ve built a custom messaging system within ProCoach.

Through this system, clients can reach out to coaches and vice-versa. It’s like email but it’s all contained within the ProCoach software.

Actually, it’s better than email: Imagine having all of your client’s details right there in front of you as you email them: their body stats, progress, latest messages and lesson responses, photos… everything.

That’s what’s possible. Each time you write a message to a client, all their data will be up on your screen at the same time. You don’t have to rely on memory.

Everything you need to know is all right there for you, literally at your fingertips.

Messaging system within the client detail page.

In addition to the messaging system, there’s a built-in feedback system.

So, if you choose to review a client’s progress updates or assignments, you can send feedback or encouragement that’ll be delivered via their coaching homepage.

While giving feedback isn’t required, it’s a really nice way to establish a connection.

Coach feedback on a lesson in the “today page”.

Details on how to use the messaging system and feedback system are included in the Learning Center. (And don’t worry, these features are REALLY simple to use.)

Q: Do clients also get a Precision Nutrition coach?
A:

Nope. Again, through ProCoach, you’re the coach.

The curriculum and the content are delivered in a totally automated way.

But you’re highlighted as the coach. Which means you’ll be accountable for monitoring client results and doing the actual coaching.

How much of that you choose to do is completely up to you.

Q: If I’m monitoring client results, how much time will I have to spend coaching nutrition?
A:

There are essentially two ways to use ProCoach.

The first way is completely hands-off.

Option 1: Simply add clients to the program and let the program roll without your intervention.

In this case, you won’t need to review assignments, track adherence, or anything else related to nutrition.

The trade-off? The client is on their own. If they’re stuck or struggling, and you’re not checking in, the probability of their success goes down.

Option 2: Coaching.

After adding clients to the program, you’ll simply commit a few hours each week to monitoring your clients’ responses, adherence, and results.

You can give them feedback. Help them troubleshoot (either in-person or through ProCoach). And provide a higher level of service.

Both options are fine.

In fact, we offer both options through our own Precision Nutrition Coaching programs.

One is a highly personal program where one of our full-time Precision Nutrition Super Coaches oversees each client’s daily work and progress. The other is an automated program in which there’s no coach working one-on-one with each client.

The key is to charge accordingly (more for the personal coaching program, less for the automated program). And to be clear about what clients can expect from each program from the start.

Q: How long will each client be in the program?
A:

ProCoach contains a full year’s worth of healthy eating and lifestyle habits. Why a full year? Two reasons actually.

First, the program is about progressively building habits over a longer period of time to promote confidence and long-term sustainability.

But there’s a business reason too.

The most expensive thing in nearly every business is client acquisition (i.e. getting a new client when one leaves or finishes a program). And most fitness and nutrition businesses fail precisely because they offer shorter-term programs (6-12 weeks).

It’s just too hard to bring in a new crop of clients every couple of months.

With the up-to-12-month program that ProCoach offers, you’ll be keeping clients much longer so you don’t have to scramble to acquire new clients every few months.

This could be the difference between success and failure. Between your business growing and thriving and it withering away.

So the idea of a longer 12-month program is a win for your clients (they’ll get better results) and a win for you (your business is more likely to grow and thrive).

But, here’s the important thing, you don’t have to sell it as a 12-month program. You can just sell it as “coaching”. If the client only stays for 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, it’s fine.

Just like with your regular coaching.

Q: What if my clients don’t want to do the full year?
A:

As mentioned above, if you (or your clients) hit the 3 month (or 6 month, or 9 month) mark and decide it’s enough time, you can stop following along at that point.

Again, we recommend that people follow the full curriculum to “the end” because it’s designed to move along a specific teaching and discovery arc, sort of like a story.

And, of course, there’s a strong business reason for keeping clients the full duration.

However, there’s no harm if folks choose not to follow the whole thing. You’ll simply remove the client from the program (it’s really easy to do), they stop paying you, and that’s it.

Just like with your regular coaching. Presumably you have enough “coaching” in you to keep certain clients forever. But you don’t actually ask them to sign up forever. You just get started, do your best, and see how long they stay.

Q: As a trainer, my clients rarely stay with me for a full year. Can I still use ProCoach?
A:

Yes, you can.

In fact, the program may actually:

  • help you keep clients longer because it drives superior client results, and
  • allow you to keep working with a client even when you’re not seeing them in-person.

In the latter scenario, let’s say you’re a personal trainer or physical therapist working with a client 3 times a week.

You add that client to ProCoach and, after 6 months, they decide to stop working with you as a trainer or therapist (either because of financial limitations or because they’re feeling self-sufficient with movement).

The cool part? You can keep working together on nutrition and lifestyle changes, for a much lower monthly fee, exclusively through ProCoach.

Whereas otherwise you would have lost the client, here you get to keep them for at least a year.

Of course, that’s just the short-term gain.

In the long run, by keeping an active coaching relationship open, clients are more likely to come back to you again if they need additional training, rehab, or medical support.

Q: What happens at the end of the year?
A:

As mentioned above, ProCoach delivers healthy eating and lifestyle habits over the course of a year. (That’s how long our clients commit to being with us. And we’d recommend you set things up the same way.)

Once the year is up, the next steps are entirely up to you and your client.

Most clients will feel self-sufficient and in control of their nutrition and lifestyle choices. (After all, that’s the goal). At that point they’d graduate from the program and you’d simply replace them with someone new.

Other clients might choose to repeat the program. With habit-based programming, repeating the process only serves to deepen your experience. Think of it as “more reps” or “more practice” at healthy eating.

Q: Can I sign up clients anytime? Or only at specific times of the year, as a group?
A:

ProCoach offers the flexibility to sign up clients whenever you like.

Want to enroll new clients as they start working with you? No problem. You can add new clients to the program any day of the week, any week of the year.

Want to do cohort groups like we do? You can do that too.

Or you can do a mix of both; maybe a few big groups a year and ongoing enrollment in between. There’s lots of flexibility to do both.

Q: Is there a demo of ProCoach in action?
A:

Yes, in case you missed the video above:

Check out this demo of ProCoach in action.

Who’s ProCoach for? (And who’s it not?)

Q: If this is how you coach your own clients, why offer it to other professionals?
A:

The answer is simple: We want to use nutrition coaching to help as many people in the world as possible. And, to do that, we need you.

To understand what I mean, here’s some basic math.

Over the last 15 years, nearly 100,000 clients have gone through Precision Nutrition’s ProCoach. Sure, that’s impressive. But check this out.

Imagine that over the next 10 years, 50,000 fitness and health professionals start using ProCoach. If each one coaches just 25 people, that’s over 1,000,000 lives changed.

That’s 10 times the impact!

So, by working together, two things happen:

  • You get to deliver something amazing to your clients that’ll help change their lives and help improve your business.
  • We get to use a program that we’ve already built to reach millions of people and make a bigger difference in the world.

It’s all-win for everyone.

High fives.

Q: Which type of professionals would benefit from using ProCoach?
A:

ProCoach is perfect for:

  • personal trainers
  • strength coaches
  • yoga/group exercise instructors
  • rehab specialists
  • manual therapists
  • doctors and other healthcare providers
  • dietitians
  • nutritionists

Bottom line: If you work with clients or patients (in-person or online) who want to eat better and improve their lifestyle habits — and you want a seamless way of adding nutrition support to your practice — this is for you.

Q: Who is ProCoach NOT for?
A:

ProCoach is probably not for you if:

  • You work exclusively with bodybuilders or physique athletes.
  • Your clients are all preparing for a specific competition or event.
  • Your clients are all elite competitors already in great shape.
  • You work with all your clients for a short and defined period of time.

This program delivers healthy eating and lifestyle habits over the course of a full year. So it’s not tailored to elite-athlete or physique-competitor needs.

Plus, the program is about progressively building habits over a longer period of time to promote confidence and sustainability. So, if you generally coach people for short/defined periods of time, it’s probably not a good fit.

Q: Do I need to be PN Certified to use ProCoach?
A:

Right now we’re only opening this program to Precision Nutrition Certification Level 1 and 2 students and graduates.

Therefore, if you’ve signed up for either the Precision Nutrition Level 1 or Level 2 Certification program, you can register to use ProCoach.

Q: How is ProCoach different from the Level 1 and Level 2 Certification programs?
A:

The Precision Nutrition Level 1 and Level 2 Certifications are education programs.

Specifically: Level 1 is a self-directed certification course designed to cover the art and science of exercise and sport nutrition for health and fitness professionals.

And Level 2 is a yearlong internship/mentorship designed to help our Level 1 graduates become true masters of the art of coaching — what we call Super Coaches.

ProCoach is totally different.

With ProCoach you’re able to use the very same software (and curriculum) Precision Nutrition uses to deliver habit-based coaching to your clients.

Q: Is ProCoach appropriate for Level 2 or 3 eaters?
A:

As mentioned above, ProCoach isn’t a great fit for clients who are:

  • dieting bodybuilders or physique athletes
  • preparing for a specific competition or event
  • elite competitors and already in great shape, or
  • working with you for a very short time

This program delivers healthy eating and lifestyle habits over the course of a full year. So it’s not tailored to elite-athlete or physique-competitor needs.

Plus, the program is about progressively building habits over a longer period of time to promote confidence and sustainability. So, if you generally coach people for short/defined periods of time, ProCoach is probably not a good fit.

In Precision Nutrition parlance, ProCoach is perfect for most of your Level 1 and Level 2 clients. And it’s probably suitable for a small percentage of your Level 3 clients, but not all of them.

Q: My clients are beginners with a lot of weight to lose. Will ProCoach work for them?
A:

Yep. We’ve worked with thousands of people who are new to exercise and healthy eating.

This program takes the needs of beginner clients into account, using a habit-based approach rooted in change psychology.

To this end, most beginners feel like the pace of the curriculum is perfect for them and brings out their best.

To see for yourself how diverse our clients have been, check this out:

What you’ll notice is that our clients come in all shapes and sizes, are all ages, and come from all different backgrounds. Probably a lot like your clients.

Q: My clients are NOT beginners. Will ProCoach work for them?
A:

Lots of our clients have 5+ years of experience with consistent training and healthy eating. Nevertheless, they come to us because their results aren’t quite matching up with their knowledge.

(Heck, we’ve even helped hundreds of personal trainers get back in shape. Like Toni. Or Ron.)

Usually, with clients like this, the problem is consistency; they know what to do but they struggle with the grind of doing it day-in and day-out. And that’s the foundation our program is built on.

Of course, if your clients are elite athletes, already in awesome shape and looking for that 1 percent sports nutrition edge, this curriculum isn’t for them.

However, it will help experienced exercisers get their eating and lifestyle habits on track. It’ll also help them stay consistent if that’s one of their struggles.

Q: What if clients don’t want to lose weight, but just eat better?
A:

That’s great too. Because lifelong fitness and health is more than losing weight.

This program teaches clients how to learn how to maintain a lean and healthy body for life.

From nutrition to stress management to sleep, they’ll develop a new and healthier relationship with food, eating, stress, and sleep. And that’s a major breakthrough for most people.

Q: What about my clients who want to gain muscle?
A:

The ProCoach curriculum works well for clients interested in:

  • eating better
  • looking better
  • feeling better
  • improving their health
  • losing body fat, and
  • experiencing body recomposition.

However, it’s not designed to teach clients how to eat for maximal muscle gain, maximal strength gain, or specific sports performance goals.

How will ProCoach help my business?

Q: I already coach nutrition. Why do I need ProCoach?
A:

If you’re already rockin’ a reliable, scalable, and automated nutrition coaching system, rock on. You probably don’t need this.

However, many professionals who offer nutrition coaching in fitness, rehab, or medicine, find it to be a struggle. We surveyed more than 10,000 of them, and their main challenges are:

  • Standardizing coaching so every client gets the same level of care.
  • Being able to coach many clients without a lot of extra work.
  • Automating coaching so they don’t waste lots of time on admin.
  • Identifying client’s limiting factors and their next action.
  • Making sure clients are being consistent and following through.
  • Figuring out how to charge and how to structure coaching.

Precision Nutrition’s ProCoach addresses each of these, making nutrition coaching and support easier for you and more effective for the client.

Q: What do you mean when you say this allows reliable, scalable, and automated coaching?
A:

I’ll define each below.

Reliable

You’re able to deliver the same high-quality coaching experience to every client regardless of what else is going on… in your life or your clients’.

This is hard to do when your coaching is either one-off or you have more than one employee.

Scaleable

You’re able to coach 5 clients, 50 clients, or 500 clients.

(And going from 5 clients to 500 requires very little additional effort.)

We coach around 5,000 clients a year using a small group of coaches. So I think it’s safe to say that scalability is well proven.

Maybe you’re crunched for time? Too busy to look after everyone’s nutrition and training? No problem, we’ll save you time while increasing your effectiveness.

Automated

You’ll be able to deliver nutrition habits, lessons, and assignments on time and on track, no matter what else you’re doing.

Whether we’re sleeping, busy, out of town, in bed with the flu, stuck in traffic or on a plane somewhere above the Pacific ocean… it doesn’t matter.

Our system will take care of our clients regardless, and make sure they get what they need.

Plus daily, weekly, and monthly check-ins are completely automated too.

Q: What kind of results can I expect when using ProCoach?
A:

In our Precision Nutrition Coaching program clients average around 15 pounds of fat loss in the first 6 months. That’s at least 3 times as effective as exercise coaching alone.

Interestingly, our coaching is 100 percent online. Our clients get those results without ever meeting us in person.

Here’s something even more interesting:

If clients work with an exercise coach or trainer, in person, while doing Precision Nutrition Coaching, they lose closer to 25 pounds of fat in 6 months on average. That’s over 4 times as effective as exercise alone.

So think about that for a second.

If you’re a trainer, by using ProCoach in conjunction with your training services, you might be able to get better results than we can.

Indeed, since we first opened ProCoach to Precision Nutrition’s students and graduates — in June of 2016 — our new ProCoaches went on to:

  • enroll 80,000 new clients,
  • help them lose more than 640,000 pounds, and
  • collect nearly $38 million in revenue.

And that’s just in the first two years. I can’t wait to see what will happen as ProCoach grows even more.

Chris Poese - testimonial card

Q: How will this help me coach more clients than I can right now?
A:

When we first built ProCoach 15 years ago, I was able to go from coaching 25-35 online coaching clients at a time to 100-150 clients at a time.

All while working the same number of hours in a given week.

I was no longer doing all those little annoying, time-wasting admin tasks every day. My client records were well-managed. Daily lessons and habits were delivered without my intervention. And daily check-ins were 100 percent automated.

This means I was able to deliver content more regularly, provide built-in accountability, collect client data more consistently, and make clients feel taken care of without me having to be in touch 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Today, our coaches average 300 clients per 1 coach.

Q: Can I “white label” the software and use my own logo?
A:

For now, no. But you’ll have your own contact info listed as “the coach” and everything will run through you.

Q: Will you show me how to build ProCoach into my business and charge for it?
A:

Because we can’t possibly know your market or your clients as well as you do, we’re not in a great position to tell you exactly how to offer ProCoach in your business.

With that said, ProCoach does include a very comprehensive Learning Center that includes sections on business models, marketing, sales, and a whole lot more.

Overview of the ProCoach Learning Center.

These are full of the best practices we’ve learned over the years. So there’s a good chance a lot of this information will work for you.

You can access this once you register as part of the upcoming group.

Q: Does ProCoach manage billing for me?
A:

No, the software doesn’t manage the billing of your clients.

Most users already have billing systems in their businesses. Managing two billing systems introduces unnecessary administrative complexity. And that’s what ProCoach is here to solve.

In addition, while many professionals will use ProCoach as a profit center for their existing business, others will use it as a value-add for their highest-paying clients.

By leaving a billing system out of the software you have the flexibility to offer nutrition coaching as a pay-for-service offering for some clients and a free value-add for others.

Q: How can I use ProCoach to establish a track record and get more clients?
A:

We’ve built some really cool features into the program for just that. These allow you to collect lots of client data and then turn those data into compelling marketing materials.

For example, built into ProCoach is a series of progress trackers. On their own, or with your help, clients will regularly:

  • Report body weight.
  • Record body girths.
  • Upload front, side, and rear photos.
  • Include subjective progress markers.
  • Report on consistency.
  • Complete feedback surveys.
  • And more.

It’s all built right into the software.

One of the progress checks that comes every few weeks.

Not only will these data help keep your clients on track, and keep you informed about everything that’s happening when they’re not with you, they’ll also serve another function: proof.

You can download printable reports and turn these into hardcopy (or digital) booklets to share with prospects. These will demonstrate the kind of results clients get while working with you.

Printable report – men.

Printable report – women.
Q: I run a fitness facility with multiple trainers. How can I get all of them using ProCoach?
A:

You’d simply sign each up for their own account based on the number of clients they have.

This keeps things really simple and avoids the unnecessary hassles of trying to create, manage, and price enterprise-type solutions.

Q: I’m an international coach with clients all over the world. Can I still use ProCoach?
A:

Of course. We work with clients in over 100 countries, on every continent but Antarctica (so far).

No matter where you — or your clients — live, we can help.

Here’s just a sample of some of the countries where our clients live:

  • USA
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Australia
  • India
  • France
  • Denmark
  • Sweden
  • Germany
  • South Africa
  • Finland
  • Norway
  • Japan
  • Mexico
  • Brazil
  • China

Antarctica, give us a call.

Q: Is ProCoach available in Spanish, French, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, etc?
A:

No, not yet.

Both the coach dashboard and the client interface are delivered in English for now.

Carolina Belmares - testimonial card

How much does ProCoach cost?

Q: Is there a limit to how many clients I can coach?
A:

No, there is no limit. You can coach 1 client, 100 clients, or 1000 clients with ProCoach.

Couple of notes, though. First, we start everyone with the basic plan (0-20 clients) because, as you add additional clients, the software simply upgrades you to the next level when appropriate.

So you’ll start with the 0-20 client plan. Add as many clients as you want. And we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll just bill you based on the number of active clients you’re working with at any point in time.

Also, the ProCoach dashboard is optimized to support 200 or fewer clients per single account (i.e. per coach). So, if you run a coaching business with multiple coaches, it’s best to have a separate account for each coach.

Q: How much does it cost to use ProCoach?
A:

We’ve priced this program to be very, very affordable. (Because we want everyone using it.)

Imagine that, over the next 10 years, 50,000 fitness and health professionals start using ProCoach. If each one coaches just 25 people, that’s over 1,000,000 lives changed.

So here’s the exclusive presale price:

$99 USD a month for 0-20 active clients

$149 USD a month for 21-50 active clients

$199 USD a month for 51-100 active clients

Note: This isn’t $99 USD per month, per client. This is a $99 USD flat fee. You pay $99 USD total per month. And you get to coach up to 20 clients a month using the software.

Also note: This price is only for people on the presale list; people not on this list pay 30% more. That means $149 USD a month for 0-20 clients, $199 USD a month for 21-50 clients, $249 USD a month for 51-100 clients.

We offer this discount to people who sign up for the presale list for one reason: the people who are most eager and willing to take action are usually our best clients. That’s why we reward them with a discount and a chance to register a full 24 hours before everyone else.

Not on the presale list yet? Add your name here.

Q: What about ProCoach Workouts?
A:

The ProCoach curriculum includes nutrition, sleep, stress management, and other lifestyle lessons and practices. If you’d like to also coach exercise using ProCoach Workouts, that’s a $69 USD per month upgrade.

This upgrade is available once you’re a member, within your ProCoach dashboard. With it, you can offer exercise to an unlimited number of clients for the same monthly price.

Q: Do PN Level 1 and/or Level 2 graduates get a discount?
A:

There are no special discounts for Precision Nutrition Level 1 or Level 2 Certification graduates.

However, there’s a very generous 30% discount for those who add themselves to the presale list.

Q: How much can I charge clients when using ProCoach?
A:

At Precision Nutrition, our personal coaching clients have paid as much as $179 USD per month to work with us. So you can go with that number if it makes sense for your market.

Of course, you could charge more or less based on your clientele, your offerings, and how you want to roll this out.

Another option is to not charge anything.

You could offer this as a value-add for your best, or highest-paying, clients. Just build ProCoach into your offering/pricing from the beginning, so there’s no need for an additional upcharge.

There are so many possible options here and we don’t place any limits on what you can charge.

Q: How profitable will this really be for me?
A:

This is where things get exciting.

At Precision Nutrition, our personal coaching clients have paid as much as $179 USD per month to work with us. If you charge the exact same amount for nutrition coaching in your business, here’s the math.

20 clients paying $179/month = $3,580 USD monthly revenue

$3,580 monthly revenue – $99/month to PN = $3,481 USD monthly profit for you

100 clients paying $179/month = $17,900 USD monthly revenue

$17,900 monthly revenue – $199/month to PN = $17,701 USD monthly profit for you

Again, you can charge whatever you think makes sense for your market.

We’re only sharing these numbers to demonstrate how low the monthly investment is relative to the profit potential.

How can I get started with ProCoach?

Q: When does the next program kick off?
A:

We’ll open another limited registration on Wednesday, June 6th, 2018, and that will probably be your last opportunity until late 2018.

Last time we opened registration, we sold out in under 2 hours and a lot of really interested coaches were left out.

Q: How do I increase my chances of getting a spot?
A:

To get an early bird chance at registration, we strongly recommend that you join the presale list.

Once you do, we’ll send you a special link 24 hours before the general public. Register early on that day and it’s more likely, although not guaranteed, you’ll get a spot.

Q: What if I don’t like ProCoach?
A:

No problem, you can cancel at any time with the simple click of a button.

If you cancel within the first 90 days, we’ll give you all your money back.

After that, you can cancel any time. No questions asked, let us know and we’ll stop billing you right away.

Q: What are current ProCoaches saying about the program?
A:

We recently invited some of our ProCoaches to Toronto to talk about their experience using the program. Here’s what they had to say:

ProCoach helps you save time, earn more money, and connect more deeply with clients.

Q: How can I find out more?
A:

To learn more, add your name to the presale list.

Once you’re on that list, we’ll follow up with more information, including how to connect with our team if you have further questions.

Interested? Add your name to the presale list. You’ll save 30% and secure your spot 24 hours before everyone else.

On Wednesday, June 6th, 2018, ProCoach becomes available to all Precision Nutrition Certification students and graduates.

If you’re interested and want to find out more, I’d encourage you to join our presale list. Being on the presale list gives you two special advantages.

  • You’ll pay less than everyone else. At Precision Nutrition, we like to reward the most interested and motivated professionals, because they always make the best students and clients. Join the presale list and we’ll give you 30% off the monthly cost of Precision Nutrition’s ProCoach.
  • You’re more likely to get a spot. Remember, last time we sold out within hours. But by joining the presale list you’ll get the opportunity to register 24 hours before everyone else, increasing your chances of getting in.

If you’re ready to help more people live their healthiest lives, grow your business, and worry less about time and money… ProCoach is your chance.

  • Eat better, without dieting or feeling deprived.
  • Get active, no matter what shape you’re in now.
  • Ditch the food rules, dropping the fad diets and conflicting advice.
  • Build fitness into your life, without it taking over.
  • Achieve, and maintain, your goals, even when life gets busy.

The result? You’ll:

  • Lose the weight/fat you haven’t been able to shed for years.
  • Build physical strength and confidence in your body.
  • Gain mental confidence, no longer hiding your gifts and talents.
  • Let go of food confusion, learn what to do, how to do it.
  • Get off the diet roller coaster once and for all, and never look back.

Seriously, imagine a life where you…

…feel physically and mentally strong, capable of taking on any challenge without worrying that your energy levels or body weight will get in the way.

…can run around with your kids, or grandkids, without feeling pain, winded, or tired; and you can do it again the next day.

…feel like food is your friend, not your enemy, and never diet again.

And here’s some really exciting news.

We’ll be offering the program at the lowest price ever ($97 USD per month), and giving away over $250,000 USD in prize money to our clients who experience the biggest physical (and lifestyle) changes.

Will Precision Nutrition work for you?

Over the last 15 years, we’ve proven the Precision Nutrition Coaching method with nearly 100,000 clients. Plus, several peer-reviewed research papers have documented the safety and effectiveness of our approach.

Unlike other programs, we don’t prescribe diets or meal plans. Instead, we help you build the skills and habits necessary to look and feel better — for life.

Just take a look at a few of our clients.

Like Sue, a businesswoman from the UK. She lost 61 pounds with Precision Nutrition Coaching, gaining the energy and confidence — not to mention jean size — of a much younger person.

Or Carm, an artist and designer from Canada. Through Precision Nutrition Coaching he became the ‘fit guy’ he never thought he could be. Now he takes his teenage boys hiking and camping and they struggle to keep up.

Or Simone. With help from Precision Nutrition Coaching she got off the diet roller coaster and discovered a whole new freedom in her life. Now she focuses her energy on positive things vs. worrying about her weight.

Work, children, aging parents, running a household, and all the surprises life can throw at us. It never stops being complicated or busy.

That’s why we do something very different.

We show you how to make health and fitness a part of your life, no matter what else is going on.

At Precision Nutrition we often say that your program should be designed for your absolute worst days — not just your best days.

You know the days I’m talking about… you’re low energy, nothing goes your way, your partner (or children) aren’t pleased when you get home, and you have a million other things to do than spend 2 hours working out and cooking organic meals.

Normal fitness plans tell you to just tough it out.

You’ve gotta want it badly enough.

If you’re aren’t willing to put in the work, you don’t deserve the results.

That’s just silly, and it’s not reality. Which is why we work closely with our clients to help them eat well and exercise no matter what’s going on in their lives.

We’ll bring the accountability it takes for you to stay consistent. We’ll review your progress, answer questions, and make recommendations to help you improve. We’ll tap you on the shoulder if you start to regress. And we’ll help you get past each hurdle along the way.

The result? You’ll get into the best shape of your life within 12 months.

And you’ll have the habits, skills, and tools to stay that way for life.

This approach has worked for thousands of clients, like Lorena, who learned that she could actually get better results with less effort.

And Sean Patrick, who learned how to get past overwhelm by taking small steps everyday.

This “real life” approach is one of the main reasons our clients achieve — and sustain — jaw-dropping transformations.

What kind of awesome transformation could you get with Precision Nutrition coaching? Check out this short video to get an idea:

Once you add your name, we’ll send you more info. Plus, being on the list gives you the chance to register 24 hours before the general public.

Who knows, you might end up winning one of our grand prizes, like Spencer:

Struggling to make important changes to your health? Your lifestyle? The way you look and feel? (Or, if you’re a coach, perhaps you’re struggling to help others make these changes.) All the folks you’ll read about today faced those challenges too. Then, with expert coaching, they turned things around, changing their bodies, and their lives. Here are 28 lessons we can all learn from what they’ve accomplished.

++

They were tired of getting winded on the stairs and lagging behind their kids (or grandkids) at the park. Frightened by what their doctors were telling them. Worried about meds. Sick of wanting to see something different in the mirror.

These men and women tried a lot of different ways to get healthy and improve their fitness, and many started to believe it would never happen.

Maybe you can relate to these folks, or are a coach to clients or patients who have faced similar moments of hopelessness.

So here’s some uplifting news: Coming to us after years of struggle, these Precision Nutrition Coaching clients achieved some of the most incredible body transformations we’ve ever seen.

So we asked them: How’d you do it?

Below, the 28 lessons they shared — lessons we can all use if we want to exercise smarter, eat better, get control of our stress, prioritize our sleep, and generally take care of our health and fitness.

++++

1. All we get is one body and one life.

Lisa had everything that was supposed to make up a great life: A lovely home, a loving husband, and two beautiful kids.

But she was overweight, overly-stressed, and using muscle relaxants everyday to deal with physical pain. She was hurting, and unhappy.

At 39, she realized that she would never get a “second chance” at the life she really wanted. She found the urgency to finally prioritize her own self-care.

Now, 50 pounds lighter, “me first” is a way of life. Because when she’s healthy, energetic, and optimistic, everyone around her benefits too.

According to Lisa, she’s now the “happiest woman in the world”.

Weight Lost: 54.1 lbs (from 222.5 lbs to 168.4 lbs)
Total Inches Lost: 48.7 inches (from 256 inches to 207.3 inches)

2. Following orders doesn’t work; taking ownership does.

Spencer, 52, was no stranger to the gym. But even though he’d had a trainer and worked out a few times a week, he wasn’t getting results.

“Physically, I was a mess,” he says. “I was frustrated with my jean size and hated dressing up. I looked like crap. I’d have beers and drown myself on the weekends to try and forget it.”

Through Precision Nutrition Coaching, Spencer finally lost weight — 56 pounds, to be exact.

What finally tipped the scales?

“I’m used to a coach telling you what to do, telling you what to eat,”  Spencer says. “Zach [my PN coach] didn’t do any of that.”

With Zach’s guidance, it was up to Spencer to take personal ownership of his decisions about food, alcohol, and workouts.

“Zach kept checking in with me every week, and kept me focused.”

Ultimately, making his own decisions about what to eat — and learning a whole lot through the process— is what paved the way for Spencer’s real change.

3. Perfection isn’t required to get started.

At 48, Alicia was working, singing at her church, parenting three kids, and juggling other complicated family responsibilities.

She was overstressed and overeating, and she just wanted “off the diet-mobile.” she says.

No matter what she tried, the weight loss never lasted. What was the use?

But when a friend who she respects lost 44 pounds with Precision Nutrition Coaching, Alicia decided it was worth a try.

Nothing was perfect — from the start of the program she was injured, and she didn’t have the money for a trainer or a gym membership — but Alicia just kept her successful friend in mind and trusted the coaching process.

It took six months for Alicia to realize that not only was she making progress, but she might be in the running for our $25,000 grand prize!

At the end of her coaching experience, Alicia ended up becoming one of our grand prize winners, completely transforming her body without needing everything to be “just right” when she started.

4. Motivation and confidence are fickle; keep going anyway.

Javier, 42, had reached the point where the pain of being out of shape and overweight was greater than the pain of making a change.

The stairs made him winded, his knees ached, and he knew he wasn’t living the life he was meant to live.

So Javier joined Precision Nutrition Coaching and got to work — week after week, month after month. But while he knew he was doing his very best at making lifestyle changes, his own self-doubt still held him back.

He felt better, but he couldn’t fully recognize his transformation. In fact, only a few weeks before the program ended, Javier threatened to quit.

Thankfully, Javier heeded his coach and kept going — and when he saw his final photos compared with the first ones he’d submitted at the beginning of the program, he couldn’t believe his eyes.

He’d lost 60 pounds in a year, and won PN’s $25,000 grand prize.

5. Feeling anxious is normal; slowing down is what’s required.

When you want to make big, lasting changes to your eating, your workout routine, and your health, patience is a virtue.

Mark, 51, a successful consultant, started out anxious and impatient to make changes happen, fast. Like most clients do.

He wanted to do everything: Long gym sessions, restrictive eating, you name it. But how could that possibly work with his frequent business trips and family life? (Hint: Not well).

Thankfully, coaching helped him slow down. And, as he focussed on internalizing the daily lessons he was going through, as he became mentally and physically open to change, he lost 42 pounds.

“Be patient. Just show up every day and focus on making small changes consistently,” he says. “That’s what leads to profound change.”

6. Treat yourself like you’d treat a close friend.

Michelle, 44, was teaching at a new school in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city. In the years that followed, she took on the responsibility of helping her vulnerable teenage students grow and learn after they’d suffered that trauma.

Like many in her situation, Michelle forgot how to care for herself. She ended up overweight, tired, stressed…a mess that made it tough to drag herself to the gym.

But after some encouragement from her husband, she started working with us and relearned how to prioritize herself, losing 35 pounds along the way.

Michelle’s advice: Treat yourself with the patience and kindness that you’d give to a close friend. First, because it will help you sustain your purpose in life. And second, because you deserve it.

7. Lifestyle personalization + support for the win.

Most people know this by now: There’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all when it comes to nutrition and fitness.

For folks like Jean-Charles, understanding what makes him — and his lifestyle — unique was absolutely crucial to his success.

“Jay-C” was dealing with some challenges: Long work hours, including night shifts; a hip injury; and a demanding job in rural New Brunswick that requires him to spend a lot of time sitting in a vehicle.

Thankfully, Jay-C’s coach talked to him regularly via Skype, sent weekly videos, and set up a special Facebook group with fellow clients — taking the time to get to know Jay-C well and keep him connected to a support team, even from his remote location.

In the end, that sort of lifestyle personalization and genuine support added up to 55 pounds lost and an impressive amount of muscle added (not to mention enough prize money to put a downpayment on a house).

Age: 33 years
Weight Lost: 55 lbs (from 255 lbs to 200 lbs)

8. Sitting on the fence is a mistake.

“If it’s your time, and you’re sitting on the fence — you want to do it, you’re thinking of doing it, you’re not sure if you should do it — jump off that fence,” says Patrick, 35, who lost 152 pounds with Precision Nutrition. “And give it everything you’ve got. Why sit on the fence when you can be a part of life?”

Patrick realized he’d been sitting around waiting for the perfect time to make life changes, when all he really needed to do was take one small step forward… right now.

9. Your body can still do stuff; celebrate that.

“Enjoy your body,” says 46-year-old Sharon, who lost more than 30 pounds with Precision Nutrition Coaching.

“Take pleasure in movement. Take pride in what you can do.”

This deep appreciation for physical health is what allows many clients to maintain fitness regimens and weight loss over time.

After fighting breast cancer, Sharon says, “My biggest regret about my earlier life is that I didn’t have the opportunity or understand what a precious gift my physicality was.”

You have permission to let go of the “sculpt your butt in 3 days” mainstream narrative. Just discover what your body can do. Enjoy it.

10. What will it be like to live as your future self?

We all have a specific motivation for wanting to lose fat and get fit. Keep that in mind. Whether it’s getting strong enough to play sports with your kids or looking great on your wedding day.

That last one is what helped 32-year-old Melissa lose 55 pounds.

“The whole time, I had this image of myself on my wedding day in my head,” Melissa says. “Walking tall, feeling amazing — feeling statuesque instead of soft around the edges.”

Don’t just think about how you want to look; think about how you want to feel. “It’s not just about what you see in the mirror, it’s what you feel inside,” says Melissa.

How do you want to feel? Confident? Capable of handling anything that life throws at you? Free to try new things? Comfortable in your own skin?

Imagine what it will be like to live as your future self. How does that guy or girl look, how do they feel, and what do they do? How could you start living a little more like that person today?

Total Inches Lost: 38 inches (from 242 inches to 204 inches)

11. Slow down and enjoy your food, all of it.

Most Precision Nutrition clients come to realize that they’ve been eating mindlessly — packing in calories without really tasting the food — for a long time.

“There’s nothing inherently wrong with dessert,” explains Yano, 35, who lost 76 pounds with Precision Nutrition.

He still enjoys dessert occasionally, of course, and finds that having it only once in a while is the key to really appreciating it.

What happens when we really take the time to enjoy our food? We usually slow down. We become more conscious of our choices, and we choose better foods for our bodies.

Yano’s Transformation

Lost 76 lbs and 20.9% body fat!

Age: 35 years
Weight Lost: 76 lbs (from 256 lbs to 180 lbs)
% Body Fat Lost: 20.9% (from 34.1% to 13.2%)
Waist Inches Lost: 10 inches (from 43 inches to 33 inches)

12. Your environment shapes you, so choose yours wisely.

When clients recognize how their surroundings might be creating unhealthy habits they usually have an “ah-ha” moment. They start seeing the relationship between what’s around them and who they think they are. This helps them change their self stories and start seeing real results.

When coaching with us, 29-year-old Sarah realized that years of work in fast food restaurants made more of an impact on her life than she cared to admit.

Something shifted for her when she asked herself: “What do I really care about? What gives me joy? How can I get more of that?”

Together with her partner, Sarah started to change where they spent their time, and who they spent it with. They started trying more things.

“We did yoga, treetop trekking, rock climbing, Olympic weightlifting.  Instead of going for drinks and dinner, we started getting more creative with how we spent our time. Our social life started to change.”

What could you remove from your environment or add to your environment to create a healthier life for yourself?

Sarah’s Transformation

Lost 52 lbs and 14.2% body fat!

Age: 29 years
Weight Lost: 52 lbs (from 191 lbs to 139 lbs)
% Body Fat Lost: 14.2% (from 26.3% to 12.1%)
Total Inches Lost: 50 inches (from 239 inches to 189 inches)

13. You are the average of the people you spend the most time with.

“It turns out that a lot of people have health and weight issues, just like I used to have,” Yano says. “And often they don’t want to eat poorly; they just do it because everyone else — friends, family, the people around them — is doing it. That was my problem for a long time.”

When you make a decision about what to eat, it’s worth asking, “what do I need?” instead of “what do they want?” This helped Yano (above) lose 76 pounds.

14. Dive below the surface; that’s where real change happens.

We can skim the top of our diet issues and see some small, fleeting changes on the scale. Or we can really dig into our relationship with food, what motivates it, and how to make it better.

For Sarah (above), letting herself get vulnerable as she went through Precision Nutrition Coaching turned into her greatest strength, opening her up to the process of self-questioning.

“How have trying times brought me to where I am now, and how have I coped?” “What do I really care about? What gives me joy? How can I get more of that?” This helped her lose 52 pounds.

15. Stay connected to all the things you love about yourself.

“Just remember, you deserve all of the amazing insights, strength gains, friendships, learning — whatever you take from this program— as you find and discover a new and best version of yourself,” Sarah (above) says.

“You are worthy.”

It’s so easy to get hung up on all the things you want to change. But all that negativity, without something positive, will drag you down.

So make time to celebrate yourself — both the things you’re already awesome at, and the successes (even small ones) you’re achieving along the way.

16. It doesn’t matter how much you “know”.

“It’s about realizing that no matter how smart I am and how much I know about exercise, if I’m not living it, I don’t really know it,” says Kevin, 40, who lost 37 pounds with Precision Nutrition Coaching.

In fact, you might find value in thinking of yourself as a beginner.

To your family and friends, you might be the go-to person for questions of health and fitness. But if you can find a way to wipe that slate clean and make way for new insights and advice — or even just for hearing them with fresh ears — then you’re much more likely to succeed.

Kevin’s Transformation

Lost 37 lbs and 12.8% body fat!

Age: 40 years
Weight Lost: 37 lbs (from 177 lbs to 140 lbs)
% Body Fat Lost: 12.8% (from 20.1% to 7.3%)
Waist Inches Lost: 21 inches (from 226 inches to 205 inches)

17. Find someone to hold you accountable.

“The truth is, I probably knew three quarters of Precision Nutrition’s dietary recommendations before I started,” says Peter, 52, who dropped 33 pounds.

“But the secret to losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight is consistency,” he says. Get someone to breathe down your neck, and you’ll make healthy choices your habit.

In other words, it’s not about knowing, it’s about doing.

Our clients’ lightbulb moment: Relinquishing control to coaches, who offer the practical lifestyle advice, daily habits, and — this is key — accountability that’s needed to create real change.

If you already know what to do but you’re not doing it, get yourself some accountability.

Peter’s Transformation

Lost 33 lbs and 11% body fat!

Age: 52 years
Weight Lost: 33 lbs (from 180 lbs to 147 lbs)
% Body Fat Lost: 11% (from 18% to 7%)
Waist Inches Lost: 5 inches (from 35 inches to 30 inches)

18. There’s no such thing as “too busy”.

Some of our most successful clients are the ones with the least amount of time.

Take Lisanne, who lost 38 pounds on the Precision Nutrition program while taking care of three small children — including a nursing infant — and getting certified as a yoga instructor and doula.

Lisanne says, “at first I wondered if this was a crazy time to start. But then I thought — why not?”

“What better time, when you think about it?”

Other clients work multiple jobs or have to travel five days a week and never know where they’ll be staying next.

They tell us that structure is the secret to making it happen. And working with someone to find their “minimum effective dose” of exercise and nutrition.

Lisanne’s Transformation

Lost 38 lbs and 14% body fat!

Age: 39 years
Weight Lost: 38 lbs (from 160 lbs to 122 lbs)
% Body Fat Lost: 14% (from 36% to 22%)
Total Inches Lost: 41 inches (from 229 inches to 188 inches)

19. Most people can’t do everything; so focus on what you can do right now.

Forget what you can’t do.

Figure out what you’re capable of in this moment, and build from there.

“I had to find it within me to accept that it was okay to do things a bit differently, says Richard, 49, who dropped 103 pounds in our yearlong program.

He had to learn that it’s okay to focus on, and try to tackle, only what he was capable of. And to forget the rest, even if he thought he should be doing it.

Eventually, Precision Nutrition clients internalize this mantra: Start wherever you are. Use whatever you have.  Do whatever you can.

Richard’s Transformation

Age: 49 years
Weight Lost: 103 lbs (from 318 lbs to 215 lbs)
% Body Fat Lost: 20% (from 40.9% to 20.9%)
Total Inches Lost: 30 inches (from 285 inches to 255 inches)

20. Imagine yourself as a role model, then go be that person.

“I want my kids to be healthy and happy and proud of the way they’re living their lives,” Lisanne (above) says. “It’s not enough for me to pay lip service to that idea — I have to be an example.”

Consider: What does “role model you” do each day? What does their morning routine look like? How do they keep the family fit and healthy?

And how could you start doing a little bit more of that today?

21. Stop thinking you have to dedicate your whole life to losing weight.

Sure, some of the changes you have to make will be fundamental. But the truth is that you only need a few hours per week to build a great body.

By getting the right kind of help and following simple yet powerful daily practices, anyone can lose weight, get healthy, and feel better.

That’s what Kia realized, and she lost 61 pounds. The big revelation for her:

“No one ever tells you that getting in shape is simple. That you only need a few hours per week to build a great body. That by getting the right kind of help and following simple yet powerful habits, anyone can lose weight, get healthy, and feel better.”

Kia’s Transformation

% Body Fat Lost: 19% (from 37% to 18%)
Total Inches Lost: 50 inches (from 252 inches to 202 inches)

22. Let your taste buds lead the way.

Many people working on new eating habits get derailed by the abundance of processed food, especially when shopping.

Our clients learn how to navigate the supermarket to avoid these temptations.

You’ve heard it before, but it works: Stay on the perimeter.

Instead of being led by shiny packages and tempting marketing tricks, 46-year-old John learned to shop for flavors.

“I ask myself, ‘Where do my taste-buds want to go today?’”. Then he buys real, fresh ingredients (like spices, herbs, fruits, vegetables, etc.) to build a meal around his own inspiration.

And it worked. John lost 106 pounds.

John’s Transformation

% Body Fat Lost: 13% (from 39% to 26%)

23. You don’t have to do anything, you choose to.

“What I learned was that I had to take responsibility for my own decisions,” says Heather, 37, who lost 47 pounds in Precision Nutrition Coaching.

“I had to get real with myself. I learned the difference between thinking, ‘I have to do x,’ and ‘I choose to do x,’ and ‘I’m doing x.’”

Everyone has to work at it. We’re all imperfect, and so are our lives. So the best thing we can do is to just get out there and make the choice to do our best.

Total Inches Lost: 43 inches (from 253 inches to 210 inches)

24. Make health programs bend to your needs.

Too often, people become discouraged when exercise and nutrition programs feel like they’ve been written for someone else. And that’s understandable. Because most of them were.

Everyone has different needs.

For sustainable weight loss, there’s no “one size fits all”.

For example, Cheryl lost 68 pounds despite the fact that she was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease — and was asked to avoid strength training — for most of her Precision Nutrition Coaching experience.

No heavy lifting? No problem. We helped her modify the workouts.

“In some ways, the diagnosis was a relief,” Cheryl says. “It became okay for me to admit that I was skipping out on what others were doing in the gym because of pain.”

Just because long distance running worked for your friends, or just because the trainer at your gym tells you to “go heavy or go home”, doesn’t mean that’s what you have to do.

Cheryl’s Transformation

Lost 68 lbs and 20% body fat!

Age: 49 years
Weight Lost: 68 lbs (from 245 lbs to 177 lbs)
% Body Fat Lost: 20% (from 44% to 24%)
Total Inches Lost: 65 inches (from 280 inches to 215 inches)

25. Concentrate on what you can do vs. what you’re measuring.

For Precision Nutrition Coaching client Katey, this was an essential lesson from the program:

“You can’t focus on weight loss – that’s not something you can control. What you can control is the process. Your choices. Enough good ones built up over time will lead you to your goals. Work hard on the healthy behaviors, let the rest fall into place.”

Katey read that over a dozen times. “It was such a huge key to… everything. It was something I’d missed before. It was at that moment I stopped focusing on what I wanted to happen and started focusing on the next step.”

If you’ve found yourself obsessing about outcomes — trying to get the scale to budge on a daily basis, for example — try focusing on actions instead.

What are you doing today to help encourage a different outcome later?

Katey’s Transformation

Age: 36 years
Weight Lost: 116 lbs (from 255 lbs to 139 lbs)
% Body Fat Lost: 21% (from 39% to 18%)
Total Inches Lost: 65 inches (from 260 inches to 195 inches)

26. You can start over every minute, every day.

“I realized I could have a clean slate every time I messed up because this was about my healthy lifestyle, and not just a diet,” says Patricia, 56, who lost 69 pounds with Precision Nutrition.

“Precision Nutrition Coaching taught me habits and changed the way I view my body and the food I put in it. It’s a life plan, and it’s something I know I can manage forever.”

Whether it’s years of yo-yo dieting, or the pizza-and-wings combo you had for dinner last night, you might have some regrets about past behavior.

But you don’t need to let these ideas about “failures” and “mistakes” hold you back.

Don’t beat yourself up, don’t obsess, don’t punish yourself. Wipe the slate clean every minute, every day, and concentrate on now.

Patricia’s Transformation

% Body Fat Lost: 25% (from 50% to 25%)
Total Inches Lost: 35 inches (from 250 inches to 215 inches)

27. Unbroken enthusiasm is a myth.

At times it’s a slog — and that’s true for everyone.

“I learned that sometimes you have to drag your a$s to the gym, even if you don’t feel like going. And learning it lifted a huge burden off me,” says Kim, 25, who lost 24 pounds with Precision Nutrition Coaching.

“While the workout may be slow moving and uninspired at first, once you’re there it’s super easy to finish.”

Sometimes workouts feel great. Sometimes the stars align and we cook a perfectly healthy, well-balanced, delicious meal.

Other times, healthy living feels like work. That’s okay.

Love it when it feels good. Let it suck when it sucks. The main thing is to just keep going.

Kim’s Transformation

Lost 24 lbs and 16.3% body fat!

Age: 25 years
Weight Lost: 24 lbs (from 160 lbs to 136 lbs)
% Body Fat Lost: 16.3% (from 29.5% to 13.2%)

28. Act courageous and brave, even if you’re not yet.

Amazing things can happen when you find the courage to push yourself outside of your comfort zone.

Says Precision Nutrition Coaching client and grand prize winner Lisa (above):

“I learned to be courageous with the activities I try. To have the courage to take time for myself. And to have the courage to be kind to myself, when I need a break or when I look in the mirror.”

Think about what feels scary or uncomfortable for you. How could you just take on a tiny piece of that thing?

Imagine what you might accomplish if you are willing to try.

Want some help becoming your healthiest, fittest, strongest version of you?

Most people know that regular movement, eating well, sleep, and stress management are important for looking and feeling better. Yet they need help empowering themselves and applying that knowledge in the context of their busy, sometimes stressful lives.

It’s also why we work with health and fitness pros (through our Level 1 and Level 2 Certification programs) to teach them how to coach their own clients through the same challenges.

  1. Use ProCoach for nutrition coaching only,
  2. Use ProCoach for both nutrition and exercise coaching,
  3. Use ProCoach for exercise coaching only.

The choice is yours.

ProCoach Workouts is now an option you can use with selected clients.

My story: Once, I wanted to help more people. But I couldn’t.

As mentioned in the first video above, I started coaching clients about 25 years ago. Back then, there was no such thing as “automated” or “online” coaching.

It was old-school: You met clients in person, you carried a clipboard, and after sessions you’d store handwritten programs on card stock paper in an organizer off to the side of the gym.

I have so many fond memories of my time training clients. But when I think back, there’s one frustration that always jumps out.

I consistently had between 15 and 20 full-time clients. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t find time to add more.

On top of working 45-60 hours every week on the gym floor training these clients, I needed to write programs, organize nutrition habits, do record keeping, manage billing, and nurture new leads.

I needed some time back, but I felt stuck.

I was working my butt off, but not making much money once the gym took their 50% cut of my coaching fees.

I realized that to make even a little more money, I’d have to find more time… which meant sacrificing my own workouts (and health) or the few hours I had left for socializing and sleeping.

After a few years on this merry-go-round, I finally came up with a solution:

I started supplementing my in-person training with online coaching.

It began really well. But whenever my roster reached 25-35 clients, I bumped up against new problems.

Problem 1:

With online clients, I didn’t have much time left for in-person coaching. I ended up doing a ton of administrative work for my online clients: program writing, record keeping, email responses, phone calls, and other routine client management tasks.

I was surprised; online coaching wasn’t the time-saver I had imagined.

Problem 2:

I started losing track of my clients.

Because I had more clients than ever, I started forgetting who was on what program, who had what goals… I sometimes felt like an idiot, asking people “So what program are you on again?” during a session.

The interesting part? Lots of other fitness and health coaches were experiencing the same things. They felt the same frustrations.

I wasn’t a lazy, disorganized, “bad” coach.

I just needed a system.

We all did.

We needed to find ways to do the “human” work of creating programs, listening, connecting with, and motivating our clients.

But we were constantly bogged down by administrative work, like paperwork, scheduling, and receipts.

So I got to thinking:

Couldn’t technology handle much of the repetitive “busywork” of day-to-day administration?

Couldn’t it keep us organized and on track? Monitor clients, even when we were sleeping or doing other things? Send us reminders and alerts?

I started asking: Could I “outsource” all these annoying and time-wasting administrative tasks so that I can take on more clients and do what I do best… coach?

So we built a dream solution to make coaching easier.

One of my best friends, Phil Caravaggio, had an answer.

Trained in systems design engineering, Phil showed me real-life examples of how IBM, Dell, and Apple were using software to simplify and amplify their businesses.

At that moment, I knew exactly what we had to do.

We set out to build a coaching platform that would allow coaches — starting with me — to deliver the highest quality coaching experience to larger numbers of clients.

One year later: Success!

We built a beta version of ProCoach and started testing it with a new batch of clients. Immediately I was able to go from coaching 25-35 clients to 100-150 clients at a time.

All while working the same number of hours — or even less — in a given week.

Chris Poese - testimonial card

15 years later, that early prototype has become ProCoach.

That was the first prototype of Precision Nutrition’s ProCoach.

Since then, we’ve consistently and relentlessly refined the technology, the software, and the curriculum.

We’ve tested its max limits. We’ve broken it on purpose and rebuilt it so it’s stronger. We’ve found all the sweet spots.

For example:

Since we built the beta version of ProCoach, our in-house coaches at Precision Nutrition have coached an average of 5,000 clients per year with the software.

Today we’re able to coach these clients with 20 full-time Precision Nutrition supercoaches (and a group of part-time interns and mentors) who work wherever they want in the world, living life on their own terms.

You’ll notice that’s an average of about 250 clients per coach — and they get amazing results.

What kind of results are we talking about here? Check this out.

And this video shares some amazing behind-the-scenes client stories.

On Wednesday, April 4th, 2018, we’re opening registration for the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification, the world’s most respected nutrition education program.

The Precision Nutrition Certification gives you the knowledge, systems, and tools you need to understand how nutrition influences a person’s health and fitness. Plus the ability to turn that knowledge into a thriving practice.

Developed over 15 years, and proven with nearly 100,000 clients and patients, our curriculum stands alone as the authority on the science of nutrition and the art of coaching.

For more about the program, check out the frequently asked questions below.

But, first, watch this short video; it provides a full breakdown of the program, including interviews with renowned coaches like Eric Cressey, Molly Galbraith, Adam Lloyd, and Jon Goodman:

Q: What’s the program all about?
A:

Developed over 15 years, and proven with nearly 100,000 clients, the Precision Nutrition Level 1 curriculum stands alone as the authority on the science of nutrition and the art of coaching.

Whether you’re already mid-career, or just starting out, the Level 1 Certification is your springboard to a deeper understanding of nutrition, the authority to coach it, and the ability to turn what you know into results.

But, here’s the thing:

You don’t have to currently work in, or operate, a health and fitness practice to benefit from the Precision Nutrition Certification.

Many people who join the program see it as their first major step toward becoming a health and fitness professional. (Often they’re still in the job they plan to leave for this new career).

Yet others complete our certification program simply to learn more about how nutrition influences a person’s health and fitness… so they can eat better themselves and help others do the same.

Q: I heard the Level 1 Certification was recently updated. Is that true?
A:

Yes, it is. And everyone here at Precision Nutrition is really excited.

Here’s what’s new.

Newly updated 3rd edition of the Level 1 Certification program

The Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification has recently been re-envisioned and refined. This latest version of the program includes:

  • new text, with the latest research in nutrition, physiology, psychology,
  • new video lectures, one to go with each chapter of the new textbook,
  • new workbook and study guide to help you prepare for the online exams,
  • new assessment forms and questionnaires to learn more about clients.
Precision Nutrition Certification 3rd Edition

The brand new 3rd Edition of the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification is not only beautiful, it’s jam-packed with the latest research and proven coaching practices.

With the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification, you’ll learn nutrition coaching the right way, from the company that Apple, Nike, Equinox, Titleist, and professional athletes around the world turn to for advice and expertise.

Now, more than ever, our certification is guaranteed to give you a one-of-a-kind education experience (and the path to become a leading coach in your field).

Extremely successful launch of ProCoach

In addition to releasing the 3rd edition of our Certification materials, we’ve also launched ProCoach. This cutting-edge nutrition coaching software allows Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification students and grads to use our proven methods with the people they coach in an easy and scalable way.

Precision Nutrition ProCoach

Tested with nearly 100,000 clients, ProCoach makes it easy to deliver world-class nutrition coaching to clients and patients. Now you can grow your practice while working less and getting better results.

We knew our system was in high demand, but the response to ProCoach — and the results health, fitness and wellness professionals are already seeing with their clients — far exceeded our expectations. Once you begin the Level 1 Certification program, ProCoach will be available to you and the people you help too.

The PN Method validated in scientific journals

The Precision Nutrition method, which drives our Certification and ProCoach programs, was recently validated in 3 peer-reviewed studies. This means that the system you’ll learn in the Level 1 program is truly “evidence-based”.

Our method was recently validated in peer-reviewed studies, which were published in Internet Interventions, the Journal of Cancer Survivorship, and Obesity Science and Practice.

Having tested it with nearly 100,000 clients, we know our system is highly effective at helping people lose fat, build strength, and make big health improvements. Now the medical and scientific communities know it too.

Community of like-minded people + top experts

With our recently added private Facebook community you’ll now be able to learn alongside an extremely supportive group of nearly 20,000 coaches, physicians, trainers, nutritionists, researchers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals from all over the world.

With case studies, lessons, tips of the day, and more, being part of this community will deepen your learning, introduce you to new people, and help you level up your career.

You’ll also get daily access to me, as well as some of our revered experts and coaches like Brian St. Pierre, Dr. Krista Scott-Dixon, Dominic Matteo, Dr. Helen Kollias, Kate Solovieva, Adam Feit, Lisanne Thomas, and more.

As part of the Precision Nutrition Certification community you can: Ask questions. Get feedback and advice. Nerd out on all things fitness and nutrition.

We’re also really proud to have our work featured in:

We’ve advised companies like:

And consulted with organizations like:

Q: So why offer a certification like this?
A:

Because an effective nutrition coaching system is the missing component in the fields of health, fitness, and wellness today.

If a health intervention or exercise program isn’t accompanied by an effective nutrition system, you’ll get mediocre results — no matter how badly the client or patient “wants it.”

The fact is this: Many very good coaches, in a variety of health and fitness fields, see their efforts go to waste because their excellent programs aren’t accompanied by a proper nutrition intervention. And that’s not merely my opinion.

To give you a very specific example: There’s ample research demonstrating that in the absence of nutrition change, even very intense exercise programs with experienced trainers, will yield an average of merely 3 to 6 pounds of fat loss in 6 months’ time.

Think about that: A client would spend $3,000-$5,000 for 6 months with a personal trainer, only to lose a few measly, unnoticeable pounds of body fat. That’s not good.

To give you a counter example, in our Precision Nutrition Coaching program, clients average around 15 pounds of fat loss in the first 6 months. That’s nearly 3 times as effective.

In Precision Nutrition Coaching, we provide both exercise and nutrition coaching, and that’s the difference.

But keep in mind: Our coaching is 100 percent online. They get those results without ever meeting us in person.

If they work with a coach or trainer while doing Precision Nutrition Coaching (which can help them work harder in the gym and stay accountable locally), they lose closer to 25 pounds of fat in 6 months. That’s over 4 times as effective.

(Of course, nutrition coaching isn’t just about fat loss. It’s also about building strength, improving health, feeling energetic, and more. I’m just using fat loss as an example.)

So something is missing, and that something is nutrition coaching.

That’s why we developed the certification program: to teach health and fitness professionals both the science of nutrition and the art of coaching. Because once you really understand both, on a deep level, you can deliver results that are impossible with exercise alone.

Precision Nutrition Certification

Q: What do you mean when you say, “Exercise alone doesn’t work”?
A:

I mean exactly that: Exercise alone doesn’t work.

If a person doesn’t change their nutrition, nothing else they do will matter much when it comes to body composition change (fat loss, muscle gain) and the associated health improvements.

And that’s what 95 percent of people are looking for, isn’t it?

Simply put, the past 25 years of published research show that while exercise alone can promote very small changes in body fat, lean mass, and the associated health markers, those changes are almost negligible.

In fact, one published review, a meta-analysis of more than 700 previous exercise studies done over 25 years, showed that about 6 months of supervised exercise programming will produce only 9 pounds of weight lost.

If we assume 50 percent of that weight lost is fat (which is a safe assumption, based on the research), that means that clients can expect to lose around 4.5 pounds of fat during a 6-month training program.

So, let’s assume a client meets with their trainer four times a week at $50 an hour. That’s $200 per week, $800 per month, and $4,800 for 6 months. All for 4.5 pounds of fat lost? That’s a cost of $1,000 per pound of fat lost.

After all that time and money spent, would an overweight client even notice 4.5 pounds fat loss? Would their cholesterol be significantly lower? Would they feel like they got their money’s worth?

Not likely.

Q: What results can I expect when I integrate nutrition coaching into my practice?
A:

Again, let’s look at one comparator, Precision Nutrition Coaching, which incorporates both exercise and nutrition.

During the first 6 months of the online-only program, the average fat loss is around 15 pounds. In addition, we see hundreds of reports of clients being taken off blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes medications.

If that client uses our exercise and nutrition system while working with a trainer in-person, they’ll see an average of 25 pounds of fat loss in 6 months.

And the best performers are losing up to 100 pounds in 12 months. It’s quite amazing.

So with the right exercise and the right nutrition programming, supervised by an in-person coach, the cost per pound of fat loss can go down from $1000 per pound to $100 per pound. That’s nearly 5 times the fat loss and 10 times the cost effectiveness.

If you’re a health, fitness, or wellness professional, imagine how in-demand you’d be if you could regularly deliver results like that.

It’s absolutely possible. In fact, it’s what we should expect. But no one is teaching this stuff.

Nothing out there covers the specific problem: How to deliver nutrition coaching in an exercise, personal training, health, rehab, or sport coaching environment. And that’s why I wanted to create this certification.

I wanted to create a new kind of program: one that helps professionals become body (and health) transformation experts, and one that helps clients and patients get the kind of results they deserve.

The Precision Nutrition Certification is a massive step in that direction.

For more on the kinds of results you can expect, check out this video:

Q: What qualifies you to teach a course / offer a certification like this?
A:

Well, for one, I have pretty vast exposure to almost every aspect of health, fitness, and nutrition. I’ve been:

  • A student of nutrition, going on to complete my Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology and Nutrient Biochemistry at the University of Western Ontario.
  • A teacher of nutrition at the University of Texas, Eastern Michigan University, and the University of Western Ontario.
  • A competitive physique athlete, winning the Mr. Jr. USA title in 1995.
  • A personal trainer, running a successful training business in Miami.
  • A researcher with studies published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
  • An author of over half a dozen nutrition books and hundreds of articles in magazines like Men’s Health, Women’s Health, and more.
  • A consultant to companies like Apple, Nike, Equinox and Titleist.
  • A nutrition coach to thousands of everyday people and quite a few pro athletes and Olympic gold medalists.

So apart from being qualified academically, I think I have a pretty unique perspective — one that’s very well-suited to teaching this material, especially to professionals.

I’ve seen the field of nutrition from more angles, both personally and professionally, than almost anyone else teaching nutrition today.

In addition, I’ve written chapters for other nutrition textbooks, I’ve created Masters-level university courses on sport nutrition, and I’ve created nutrition certification material for other certifying bodies.

So I have quite a bit of experience creating academic course material.

But most of all, I think I’m qualified to teach this because we’ve used and tested this very system extensively with our own clients here at Precision Nutrition.

Remember: Precision Nutrition isn’t just a certification company.

Over the past 15 years, through our Precision Nutrition Coaching system, we’ve been quietly conducting the largest body transformation research project in the world.

We’ve had nearly 100,000 clients go through our nutrition coaching curriculum, doing what is essentially a total exercise, nutrition and lifestyle intervention.

The purpose of this coaching is simple: to help people lose fat, gain lean mass where needed, and completely transform their bodies (and lives).

Now, here’s the thing: Since the entire program is online, we’re able to collect data on everything. And I mean everything.

Because we don’t see clients in person, we can’t “eyeball” things. We need data. So we have detailed psychometric (personality) profiles on our clients. We track compliance and every measurable and relevant behavior. And, of course, we regularly collect photos and monitor body composition and performance outcomes.

As a result of this rigorous data collection, I’m guessing that we here at Precision Nutrition know, better than almost anyone else in the world, which variables are most important to body transformation success.

Now, remember, I’m not talking about what we think is correlated to success. I’m talking about what we absolutely know is correlated with success. Success here meaning compliance, consistency, and ultimately, fat loss, muscle gain, and life-changing health improvements.

It takes a long time to gather this kind of information, especially since no one in the health or fitness industry has ever done anything like it before. But now that it’s been gathered, analyzed, and tested, I believe it’s time to share it.

From there, the Precision Nutrition Certification was born.

Precision Nutrition Certification

Q: How does the Precision Nutrition Certification compare to other nutrition education options?
A:

First, it’s based on real client data and our own coaching experience.

We’re not really a certification organization. We’re coaches. So this is coming from first-hand knowledge that we use ourselves every day.

This certification is based on real client results, and a reliable and reproducible system for monitoring and achieving those results. That’s what you learn when you become Precision Nutrition Certified.

Second, it’s designed specifically for people passionate about nutrition and fitness — including health and fitness professionals. Many of our students are coaches, therapists, physicians, dietitians, and nutritionists working with people who exercise.

That’s very important, because most nutrition courses suffer from at least one of two big problems.

Problem 1: They have little or nothing to do with exercising clients looking for health or body transformation.

Most credible nutrition education today is meant for people looking to become professors, researchers (people who work at universities), or clinical dietitians (people who work at hospitals). If you want to do any of that, you go to college, study for years and get a Ph.D. or an R.D. Both noble professions.

I got a Ph.D. in the field myself, so I’m not knocking it. Both Ryan Andrews and Brian St. Pierre, who co-wrote the textbook for the Precision Nutrition Certification, got their R.D.s and worked at prestigious hospitals and research institutes. And both Krista Scott-Dixon and Helen Kollias, my other co-authors, earned Ph.D.s at respected universities.

But neither of those roads teach you how to actually coach an exercising client through a health and body transformation. That’s a very specific skillset, requiring both an understanding of the science of nutrition and — this is critical — a reliable system for coaching it.

So unlike anything else out there right now, the Precision Nutrition Certification does both of those things. It was designed from the ground up, specifically for people who work with, or are looking to work with, clients.

Problem 2: Most of the nutrition certification programs out there are, well, kind of a joke.

I just Googled “nutrition certification” and found thousands of results. Yikes. The situation is bleak, my friends.

Of the non-university level nutrition certifications out there, I see plenty of garbage, quite frankly. Weekend seminars, no exams, no studying. Lots of rubber stamping.

Some are more challenging, I’m sure, and probably a few are even worth the money. I don’t know — I can’t look at the Google results for very long before getting depressed.

I think I would sum it up this way: If you’re here, reading this, you’ve probably followed us for some time and you probably think a lot like us. And so I suspect you will probably benefit more from the Precision Nutrition Certification than from any other non-university level nutrition education you’re likely to find.

That’s just my gut feeling, so take it for what it’s worth.

Q: How thorough is the Precision Nutrition Certification?
A:

Very. To give you an idea: I teach a masters-level Sport and Exercise Nutrition course at Eastern Michigan University. The course is part of a High-Performance Physiology master’s degree program at EMU.

And the Precision Nutrition Certification covers the very same material that my master’s students learn as part of the EMU program. This is an elite certification based on grad school material.

Ron_PN_Team_Member

Q: Will there be multiple levels of certification?
A:

Yes, two.

This is the first, the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification, and includes the textbook, the online material, and the online exam.

Essentially, Level 1 certifies that you understand the theory. Once you pass the exam, you get a Level 1 certificate acknowledging your completion of the theory part of the certification program.

Some people will stop there. And that’s cool with me. With the Level 1 certificate, they’ll be as well trained in exercise and sport nutrition as my master’s students.

The Precision Nutrition Level 2 Master Class is only open to students and graduates of the Level 1 program.

The Level 2 student is required to do an online mentorship, perform regular research reviews, and produce client case studies showing that they can actually deliver results. Level 2 certifies that you can take the theory and apply it with your clients or patients all the way through a successful health and body transformation.

So, unlike other nutrition certification programs, the Precision Nutrition Certification has both a theory component (Level 1) and a practice component (Level 2).

Those who complete both levels will be among the best in the world at getting results.

Q: Do I need to have a science degree to become certified?
A:

No. We assume no prior knowledge of biology, chemistry, etc., and so we don’t require a university degree.

Now, if you were terrible in science, expect this certification to be challenging. But if you are generally comfortable with science and are willing to read and review, you can learn this stuff.

Q: Once I’m Precision Nutrition Certified, will I be listed on your site?
A:

Yes. And given our exposure online, that’s a big advantage for Precision Nutrition Certified professionals. As we grow our online coaching programs, that advantage will grow with it.

For example: Our coaching clients are often interested in finding a local coach, one who actually knows what the heck they’re doing, to help them out with their new exercise movements, etc.

In the past, we had no one to send them to.

I can’t just send them blindly in the typical local fitness club with their Precision Nutrition exercise and nutrition program in hand. It would be a disaster.

So with the Precision Nutrition Certification we’re creating an army of health, fitness, and wellness coaches who actually get it. Coaches who our readers, clients, and customers can trust.

What’s more, by being Precision Nutrition Certified, coaches will be part of a network of local professionals that we trust and that we can refer our own clients to.

Once you’re certified, you’ll have a professional profile in our new online directory of Precision Nutrition Certified Professionals, so you’ll be easy to find when people are looking for local help.

Precision Nutrition Certification

Q: Are there any requirements to maintain my certification?
A:

As a Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certified professional, you’re required to re-write an exam every two years from your date of course completion to keep your certification current.

The renewal process is in place to ensure your knowledge is current, and you’re still practicing at the top of your field.

The good news: re-certifying is simple and free.

We make it easy — and free — to stay certified with us because, if you’re working in the field, you should be out there growing your business, not chasing CEUs.

And the other nice thing is there are no CEUs or requirements to maintain your certification beyond taking the exam every two years.

If you take the recertification exam before your Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification expires, you’ll maintain your status as “certified” in the PN Directory. And we’ll send you an updated certificate.

Q: Would nutritionists and dietitians benefit from this program as well?
A:

Absolutely. In fact, I wish every dietitian would find their way to this program and get involved.

Although RDs have excellent training in all aspects of clinical nutrition, most dietetics programs don’t even offer a sport and exercise nutrition course. If they do, the course is usually too general to be of any use in the field.

Trust me. I know because I’ve taught in dietetics departments. Just because someone has earned an RD or LD credential doesn’t mean they’re done learning. The best dietitians, physicians, trainers, and coaches make lifelong education an important priority.

The Precision Nutrition Certification program would be an asset for every dietitian.

Q: Is this program accredited by a national education board?
A:

No, it’s not accredited by any of the national education boards. Again, we’re a research and coaching company, not a certification company.

If you want letters and a rubber stamp, there are organizations for that. At Precision Nutrition, we’re all about passing on important and life-changing knowledge. We’ll leave the bureaucratic hoops to other organizations.

However, I should mention that we are recognized as a continuing education provider by the top fitness and nutrition organizations in the world (see below). In addition, as mentioned above, our course material is approved for teaching at the master’s level.

Precision Nutrition Certification

Q: Can I earn CEUs from my training or dietetics organization with this program?
A:

Most likely. The curriculum is pre-qualified for CEUs with the following organizations:

  • ACE (2.0 CECs)
  • ACSM (20 CECs)
  • CDR (16 CPEUs)
  • CPTN (14 CECs)
  • Fitness Australia (15 CECs)
  • NASM (1.9 CEUs)
  • PTA Global (24 CECs)
  • REPs UK (16 CPDs)

This means that, if you are certified by any of the groups listed above, CEUs are guaranteed upon successful completion of the course.

I should also note that a host of additional organizations accept our course on a one-off basis. For these, graduates from our program submit a summary of the course and their certificate for review.

Q: What about those people specifically looking for national accreditation?
A:

People come to Precision Nutrition to get certified because they want the best possible exercise and sport nutrition training — from one of the world’s most recognizable exercise and sport nutrition companies.

For those of you looking for some other end, like national accreditation (which often means that the program has been reviewed by your government; and we all know how awesome they are at offering nutrition information), give us a shout at info@precisionnutrition.com.

There are other programs for that and we’ll be happy to point you to those types of certification programs.

Q: How long does it take to complete the Level 1 program?
A:

The Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification is entirely self-paced, so there’s no deadline. You can take as much time or as little time as you like.

The pace that seems to work best for most of our students is completing one chapter per week. That means reading the chapter, reviewing the online video, answering the workbook questions, reviewing the FAQ, and writing the 10-question exam.

If you follow that structure, you can expect to spend 3-5 hours per week on the certification materials. Since there are 18 total chapters, you’d earn your Precision Nutrition Certification in a little over four months.

Q: How do I stay committed and on track if the program is self-paced?
A:

That part is easy.

In addition to the printed materials you’ll receive (i.e. textbook, workbook, client assessment forms), you’ll also get access to our online course platform.

While the platform hosts our educational videos, FAQs, and online quizzes (one per chapter), it also encourages (and tracks) your progress.

In the end, we built the online platform ourselves based on the best practices of distance-based education. Most students find it the perfect blend of flexibility and accountability. And the proof is in our graduation rate, which is well above the industry standard.

Q: How about Level 2?
A:

The Level 2 program is an in-depth online mentorship that takes 12 months to complete.

And, as discussed above, it’s only available to Level 1 students and graduates.

Q: What are other people saying about the program?
A:

The feedback on the Level 1 Certification has been overwhelmingly positive.

In the past 7 years we’ve enrolled nearly 50,000 students in the course. And student satisfaction ratings exceed 99 percent, meaning nearly 100 percent of our students rate the course as “excellent”.

And, in case you missed the video above, here are some thoughts from a few of the top coaches in the industry:

Q: What advice will someone be able to offer clients or patients after completing the course?
A:

That’s a great question and one we cover in-depth in the course.

Most health and fitness professionals are allowed to make nutrition recommendations to otherwise healthy clients. So even without the Precision Nutrition Certification, most folks can make nutrition recommendations. What we’re offering is a much better system for making those recommendations.

The only scope of practice that’s restricted is Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), which means giving nutrition advice to treat or cure disease. You won’t be qualified to do this, and you should never try, unless you’re specifically MNT-accredited.

Q: Why the recent program update? Can I see some sample materials?
A:

Since we first launched the Precision Nutrition Certification, we’ve been the definitive source of nutrition education for health, fitness and wellness professionals who want to catapult their careers and make a difference in people’s lives.

Indeed, over 1.5 million of them visited our website last month. That’s enough to fill Dallas Cowboys stadium 20 times over. Yet we’re never satisfied with yesterday’s success.

Nutrition science is dynamic, new discoveries are made almost daily. And that’s just on the research side. As we continue to coach our own clients, we’re discovering new methods of helping them achieve real, lasting behavior change.

That’s why we’re constantly updating the course curriculum. This is great for you since we just released our third edition. It includes:

  • Brand-new video lectures, one for each textbook chapter, to better learn the material and retain what you’ve learned (check out a sample video below, it’s awesome),
  • Brand-new workbook with exercises and thought experiments to help prepare you for your end-of-chapter exams, and

As promised, here’s “Through the GI Tract” — which supplements Chapter 2 of the textbook. (Remember, every chapter has an awesome video like this, to go along with the text).

On Wednesday, April 4th, 2018 we’re opening registration for the Precision Nutrition Level 2 Certification, designed specifically for Level 1 students and graduates who realize that knowing all about the science of nutrition is never enough.

Part master class, part grad program, part mentorship, it’s the only course in the world designed to help you master the art of nutrition coaching, meaning better results for your clients and a better business for you.

Want to achieve total confidence in your coaching skills? Get (and keep) more clients? Grow and strengthen your business? If so, the Precision Nutrition Level 2 Certification is definitely for you.

For more about the program, check the frequently asked questions below.

But, first, watch this short video; it provides a full breakdown of the program, including interviews with superstar coaches, physicians, and trainers like Adam Feit, Spencer Nadolsky, Adam Lloyd, Mary Kate Feit, and Will Boggs:

Q: So what’s the program all about?
A:

Our highest rated (and most revered) program, the Level 2 Certification provides exclusive training, mentorship, and coaching practice under the guidance of the Precision Nutrition team — resulting in a more rewarding, sustainable, and profitable business for you.

By working closely with a PN Master Coach, you’ll become truly elite, capable of solving complex coaching challenges, delivering unparalleled results to every person who comes to you for help, and standing out from the pack as a genuine client whisperer.

Level 2 also positions you to truly catapult your career with ProCoach, our cutting-edge software that makes it easy to implement and scale the nutrition coaching method you’ve mastered.

What does this mean for you and your business?

Well, aside from the deep satisfaction that comes with mastering your craft, our research also suggests that the average Level 2 coach:

  • gets more clients than the average Level 1 coach,
  • retains more clients than the average Level 1 coach,
  • gets better results with those clients, and
  • reports more fun and enjoyment in their coaching practice.

Indeed, as amazing as our Level 1 certified coaches are, recent ProCoach data with nearly 100,000 clients shows that Level 2 certified coaches have 10 times (!) the retention vs. Level 1 coaches.

Q: Can you tell me a little more about the program?
A:

At its basic level, the Precision Nutrition Level 2 Certification Master Class is a hands-on, practice-based, mentored program that covers both the art and the science of nutrition coaching at the elite level.

It synthesizes everything we’ve learned over the past 15 years of coaching and research in the nutrition field.

That means:

  • We’ve reviewed thousands of academic and clinical studies.
  • We’ve used our system to help (and learn from) nearly 100,000 clients and patients.
  • We’ve trained and mentored thousands of students.
  • And we’ve collaborated with experts in a variety of fields from psychology to business strategy.

From there, we turned all this education and experience into the comprehensive year-long Level 2 Master Class curriculum.

Q: Who is the Precision Nutrition Level 2 Certification Master Class for?
A:

We’ve designed this intensive, year-long program to meet the needs of health, fitness, medical, strength, and rehab professionals working to improve the lifestyles, nutrition, wellbeing of clients and patients.

But you don’t have to work in, or operate, a health and fitness business to benefit from the Level 2 Master Class.

Some students complete it (Level 1 first, followed by Level 2) as their next step to becoming an elite coach because they’re still in a job they hope to eventually leave so they can start working in health and fitness.

Others simply go through the training to be able to help family and friends… or anyone who turns to them for help.

Regardless of your goals, the Level 2 Master Class is designed around “learning relationships” — an instruction method proven to maximize knowledge transfer from mentor to student and help anyone, from any background, leverage their own unique strengths in this field.

Check out this short video to learn more about how the Master Class works, and who it’s for.

Q: Why offer a certification like this?
A:

Health, fitness, and nutrition are growing rapidly; many people are looking here for interesting career options.

Unfortunately, most health, fitness, strength and rehab professionals feel they’re missing one or more of the following in their practice:

  • A broad base of nutrition knowledge that reflects the most up-to-date research and practice in the field.
  • A broad base of applied psychology knowledge that helps them understand client/patient motivation and behavior (yes, even the “illogical” stuff!).
  • An ability to deliver and communicate all that great nutrition and psychology knowledge to actually improve people’s lives.
  • An understanding of specific populations (such as athletes or folks recovering from injury) or life stages (such as youth / aging or pregnancy) and how to tailor programs precisely for their needs.
  • The confidence and clarity that comes from having practiced foundational skills consistently, under the direction of qualified and caring mentors.
  • An understanding of how to position their coaching business within a competitive market, and how to run it effectively.

The Level 2 Master Class covers each of these, giving graduates new knowledge, skills, and confidence. Which is why we developed the program. It’s for those coaches (or coaches-in-training) who want next-level professional development.

Q: Is this how you train your own coaches at Precision Nutrition?
A:

Yes, this program started out as our own in-house training program for newly hired Precision Nutrition coaches.

You see, as talented as some of our applicants were, almost none had the training or skills required to coach at the highest possible level, to the Precision Nutrition standard.

So we created an intensive, year-long coaching curriculum for our new recruits and paired them up with one of our Precision Nutrition Master Coaches to form a practice-based mentorship.

We were absolutely blown away by the results. After completing the training, already great coaches were ten times better at creating connection, navigating challenges, and helping people achieve their goals.

Q: How is the Level 2 Certification different from Level 1?
A:

The Level 1 Certification gave you a broad base of nutrition and coaching knowledge, a strong foundation of textbook learning on the science of nutrition and the art of coaching.

Now it’s time to refine this knowledge, tailor it to your needs, put it into practice, and apply it every day.

There are a few major differences between Level 1 and Level 2.

Level 2 is an intensive, highly structured, year-long program.

While Level 1 is a self-paced program, Level 2 is a highly structured, year-long program with daily lessons and regular assignments.

I won’t lie: Level 2 is serious stuff. You’re thinking, reflecting, researching, practicing, and/or interacting every single day. We push you to grow and develop, and challenge all your coaching skills.

When you graduate Level 2, you’ll really feel like you earned it. Anyone can do it, but it takes hard work and dedication.

Level 2 is practice-based and hands-on.

Level 1 is more like a university course, with textbook, course materials, and exams. Level 2 is more like a graduate-level practicum or apprenticeship with mentoring.

Every day we ask you to practice a Level 2 coaching skill and figure out how to apply what you’re learning in real life.

You also work through real coaching scenarios, step by step; this is real-world problem solving and consists of on-the-ground challenges.

In essence, this isn’t a learning program. It’s a doing program.

As you already know: Clients and patients don’t get healthy by learning about nutrition and exercise. They get healthy by practicing good nutrition and exercise, consistently. (And, often, by seeking out guidance from a skilled coach).

Likewise, you don’t become an expert coach by learning about coaching. You become an expert coach by practicing excellent coaching, consistently (under the guidance of your own coach).

Level 2 goes deeper into the art and science of coaching.

It’s not just a big pile of nutrition science (though we give you plenty of that too).

Fundamentally, Level 2 teaches you how to coach nutrition.

(And anything else you might want to coach. The skills are nicely transferable.)

Here’s a quick comparison.

And, as mentioned above, the average Precision Nutrition Level 2 coach:

  • gets more clients than the average Level 1 coach,
  • retains more clients than the average Level 1 coach,
  • gets better results with those clients, and
  • reports more fun and enjoyment in their coaching practice.

Indeed, as amazing as our Level 1 certified coaches are, recent ProCoach data with nearly 100,000 clients shows that Level 2 certified coaches have 10 times (!) the retention vs. Level 1 coaches.

Q: What topics does the Level 2 Certification cover?
A:

See here for our course overview and detailed syllabus, week by week.

Like our Level 1 Certification, you can think of the Level 2 Master Class as “half nutrition, half coaching”.

Many of our students are already highly trained nutrition or health professionals (such as physicians, rehab specialists, movement coaches). Many are already working in fitness or health care, and already have professional qualifications.

Yet these highly educated professionals are still finding it very challenging (and in some cases anxiety-provoking) to develop effective intervention programs and keep clients and patients engaged, motivated, and on track.

Coaching is the missing piece that links what you know and what your clients can and will do.

So the Level 2 Certification covers things like:

  • Assessing research quality and reviewing clinical studies
  • Body composition
  • Psychoneuroimmunology / psychoneuroendocrinology and the biology of stress
  • GI structure, function, and health (including microbiome)
  • Differences by age; sex/gender; ethnicity/genetic ancestry; sociocultural and demographic variation
  • Male and female fertility / hormonal health
  • Chronic illnesses and disabilities
  • Performance / athletic nutrition
  • Disordered eating and cognitive dietary restraint
  • Appetite, hunger, and environmental cueing of eating behaviors
  • Meal planning and food prep strategies
  • Intermittent fasting
  • Supplementation and medication interactions
  • Sleep and recovery
Q: What if I already know all this stuff?
A:

Then you must run a fantastically successful nutrition coaching business!

Seriously…

The truth is that you may “know” many of the skills we teach, but don’t implement them as well or as consistently as you would like.

And that’s OK.

That’s why we practice, every day.

We only ask that you have a growth mindset. Be open to learning, challenge, experimentation, development and feedback.

Be coachable. Learn what it’s like to be in the client’s shoes.

Show up with an open mind, be receptive, and entertain the possibility that you may not be a rockstar just yet. (Or that you are a rockstar but, that rockstars still have room for improvement too).

Q: What qualifies you to teach a course / offer a certification like this?
A:

Well, for one, I have pretty vast exposure to almost every aspect of fitness and nutrition.

So apart from being qualified academically, I think I have a pretty unique perspective — one that’s very well-suited to teaching this material, especially to coaches.

And I’m just one person. Our Precision Nutrition Level 2 Certification program was created by a team of experts, including:

  • Dr. Krista Scott-Dixon, a specialist in adult education / curriculum design and creator of our Precision Nutrition Coaching program.
  • Brian St. Pierre, RD, MSc, a specialist in performance nutrition and consultant to pro athletes.

Most of all, we’re qualified to teach this because we’ve used and tested this very system extensively with our own clients and coaches here at Precision Nutrition.

The purpose of this coaching is simple: to help people lose fat, gain lean mass where needed, and completely transform their bodies, health, and lives.

And as a result of this rigorous data collection, I’m guessing that we know, better than almost anyone else in the world, what makes great coaches, and what helps clients change their bodies and lives.

Now, remember, I’m not talking about what we think is correlated to success. I’m talking about what we absolutely know is correlated with success. Success here meaning our clients know and understand what to do. And they do it. Consistently. They improve their body composition, health, performance, and quality of life.

Success here also means our coaches perform at a high level. It means they’re continually training themselves, developing professionally, and refining their coaching skills.

Q: Why is coaching psychology such a big deal to you guys?
A:

Quite simply: The body follows what the mind and emotions do.

Imagine a client who feels:

  • motivated
  • empowered and inspired
  • action-oriented and able to keep moving forward
  • clear on next steps
  • relaxed and confident
  • committed to and fully aligned with the goals of the program
  • flexible, creative, and problem-solving
  • open and receptive to growth and development
  • self-compassionate and self-encouraging
  • proactive and strategic
  • focused and able to prioritize
  • calm, trusting and relaxed
  • positive

Heck, imagine being a coach who feels that way!

This is what sports psychologists have sometimes called “the inner game”.

Change the mind and emotions, change the body.

Coaching psychology gives us specific tools and techniques for helping our clients change… and feel great about it.

This isn’t your Freud or lab-rat-running-mazes psychology though. It’s real-world stuff.

No matter who or what you encounter in your coaching practice, wouldn’t it be nice to feel like you have a clear plan and a system for working with it?

(And ideally, that you yourself feel calm and confident in the process?)

That’s the power of practicing coaching psychology.

Q: Do I need to have a university degree to become certified?
A:

No. We assume no prior knowledge of biology, chemistry, psychology etc., and so we don’t require a university degree.

Now, if you struggled in school, expect this certification to be challenging.

We ask that you be willing to work on your basic skills of reading, writing, communication, self-organization, and time management.

We’ll also ask you to stretch your learning comfort zone. You’ll probably feel a bit challenged at some point in this program.

However, we offer mentorship and guidance. If you’re willing to show up and give it your best shot and work hard, then we’re here to help.

Q: What’s the time commitment?
A:

We ask that students consistently set aside about 5 hours per week for Level 2 coursework.

You won’t always use that much time, and to some degree the schedule is flexible (i.e. you don’t have to show up for class at 9am), but you definitely won’t want to rush through your daily lessons and practices.

Plus, you’ll be working through some complex case studies, doing research, studying for quizzes, and reflecting on feedback from your coach.

These things take focus, cognitive work, and mental presence.

We suggest you give them the time, energy, and attention they — and you — deserve.

And we suggest you think of this time as an investment in you and your professional development, rather than a “cost”.

Q: What results can I expect when applying what I learn in the Master Class?
A:

Q: What advice will someone be able to offer clients after completing the course?
A:

That’s a great question and one we cover in depth in the course.

Health and fitness professionals are allowed to make nutrition recommendations to otherwise healthy clients. So even without the Precision Nutrition Level 1 or Level 2 Certification, you can make nutrition recommendations.

What we’re offering is a much better system for making those recommendations.

At the same time, while Level 2 explores many topics related to health and physiology, it doesn’t give you the credentials to give nutrition advice to treat or cure disease. That’s Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) — and you have to be a registered dietitian or medical doctor to offer it.

Q: Will you also give me business advice?
A:

This is not a business development course.

We won’t talk about specifics like which software is best for managing clients, how to resolve employee disputes, or how to do your bookkeeping.

However, we do help you explore how to tailor your professional services and business so that they match your unique coaching superpowers, values, and priorities.

We also give you access to a group of other Level 2 students who are going through the program with you. This is unprecedented access to a network of engaged, like-minded elite coaches from all over the world.

No matter how clever you are at marketing or accounting, fundamentally you have to offer a great product: your coaching services.

And of course, you’ll continue to be listed on Precision Nutrition’s Certified Professionals directory page.

Q: Am I guaranteed to make money? What’s my ROI?
A:

We guarantee that the Level 2 Master Class will be one of the best coaching experiences of your life. Which is why we offer such a generous refund policy. But there’s no guarantee that the Level 2 Certification program will make you money.

Of course, many people do make more money after graduating from the Level 2 Certification, because they put what they learn into practice, every day, over and over and over.

In fact, our research has shown that the average Precision Nutrition Level 2 coach:

  • gets more clients vs. the average Level 1 coach,
  • retains more clients vs. the average Level 1 coach,
  • gets better results with those clients, and
  • reports more satisfaction in their coaching practice.

Indeed, as amazing as our Level 1 certified coaches are, recent ProCoach data with nearly 100,000 clients shows that Level 2 certified coaches have 10 times (!) the retention vs. Level 1 coaches.

Commit to coaching mastery and you’ll become a better coach who attracts more clients, keeps the clients you do have, and encourages those clients to refer their friends.

Q: What are other people saying about the program?
A:

The feedback on the Level 2 Certification has been overwhelmingly positive. Here’s a sampling:

“I find that I am becoming equipped to coach clients from all different walks of life. This isn’t ‘surface’ coaching, it gets to the core of human nature, habits, and emotion. Best thing I’ve done for myself as a coach thus far.” —Michelle Mobley Simpson

“PN2 will teach you how to mobilize your personal strengths in ways that will place you among the elite in your field. The program’s coaches are fantastic resources, providing spot-on insights, valuable information, and just the right touch of supportive mentoring.” —Zoe Georgas Johnson

“This course has made me realize that there is no end to the skills and knowledge that can be acquired to make yourself better. These concepts are ones that you can read in the morning and use them in the afternoon.” —Keith Countess

“With 9 years under my belt as a coach, I expected to learn from this course, but not to the extent I have. I have had long-held beliefs challenged and had to reexamine some of my own priorities, making me a better coach and person through increased knowledge and a supportive system.” —Bronwyn Adams-Hooper

Q: What about recertification?
A:

Once you’ve finished the Level 2 Certification Master Class, you’re a PN’er for life. That means two things.

  • You’ll never need to re-certify for the PN Level 1 Certification.

A:

Yes, you can. Although, we do prefer you complete the Level 1 program before enrolling in Level 2. With that said, it’s ultimately up to you.

Q: Can I earn CEUs from my personal training organization with this program?

Most likely. The curriculum is pre-qualified for CEUs with the following organizations:

  • ACE (2.0 CECs)
